How do we know what our cross is in any given circumstance of our lives?
I am convinced our brother, Peter, was intently focused on doing Luke 9:23 and steadfastly following Jesus, but in that night's chaotic context, neither knew how, nor had an awareness of his lack of strength to do it. (That's not a difficult schism for me to identify with.)
Peter had already promised Jesus he'd never deny Him; walked onto a lake to be with Him; whacked off an ear in defense of Him - and yet within the uproar of seeing His Lord being taken away, had to have been thoroughly beside himself: "What am I to do in this situation? Is this really my time to pick up my cross too? Now?"
This 3 minute scene from "The Passion of the Christ" movie portrays the alarm & agony that must have been swirling within him as he disowned Jesus.
Matthew, Mark & Luke tell us that after their friend remembered Jesus' prediction, he went out and "wept bitterly". What was the "anfechtung" that ripped at Peter's soul as he wept?
Eusebius ("Ecclesiastical History" 325 AD) asserts that eventually Peter was put to death in Rome - by crucifixion. Peter could have been executed in any number of terrible ways. I wonder if as he heard Nero say "crucifixion", he didn't receive it as a sweet gift from the Lord Who had known Peter's heartache all this time...? This cross was for him. This time, he would bear it with strength & consolation.
This brings me so much hope! Jesus is SO for you, beloved!
@MiguelRodriguez-dj1wv
Forgive me jesus because I have denied you. It's easy to judge Peter but we all have done the same at least once in our lives. Forgive me heavenly father because I'm a sinner.
@HumbleMan78
You are 100% correct... We are filled with faults within.. We dont have the right to judge Peter...
We can only ask HIS forgiveness...
@meewally9747
I was a sinner as we all were and are BUT I HAVE NEVER DENIED GOD OR JESUS
BECAUSE ITS AN UNSETTLING SPIRIT TO EVEN THINK IT LET ALONE COMMIT IT! SECOND THOSE DAYS TO EVEN SAY HIS NAME WAS DEATH! PETER WAS SCARED AND IF YOU ALL KNEW YOUR BIBLE YOU WOULD KNOW HE HAD TO IT WAS ALL APART OF THE PROPHECY! IF HE DIDN'T THEY WOULD HAVE NEVER CRUCIFIED YESHUA WE WOULD NOT HAVE THE CHANCE TO BE SAVED AND ALL ON OUR WAY TO HELL RIGHT NOW! And for the most part more than half the world is headed right there assuming just believe Yeshua died on the cross and everything will be alright, dont quite work that way.
It's a total transformation in lifestyle In this world but not of the things of this world " old man dead new creature in Christ." And I never in my 51 yrs heard anyone judge PETER because we know its prophecy. May, God bless.

@@meewally9747 you did when you chose darkness over light, which everyone here on Earth has done, if we hadn't we'd need not to repent.
@allytsui377
yeah me too
@el34glo59
You've denied someone to escape persecution to let your friend die?
@furiousmax0779
That part when Jesus sees Peter after he denies makes my heart sink every time
@nicholascauton9648
The look Jesus gives to Peter right after denying Him three times really says everything that needed to be said.
@benassar6502
The way he stares at Judas after the kiss of betrayal is also very chilling
@IamClement93
That's the amazing part of it. The portrayal of God's grief when we sin. A look and knowledge so haunting, that it might make you think twice next time before falling into sin again.
