The trio is currently ranked as the highest-selling female musical group in the USA, according to RIAA Gold & Platinum album certifications. As of 2012, The Chicks had won 13 Grammy Awards. While The Chicks continues, Maguire and Robison are writing and recording as Court Yard Hounds as of Feb 2010. The Dixie Chicks renamed the band in 2020 to The Chicks dropping Dixie from the official name as the name had the word 'Dixie' referencing the American Mason–Dixon line, which separated the free and slave-owning southern states.
Robin Lynn Macy was an original bandmember, as was Laura Lynch. Macy left the group in 1992, while Lynch was replaced by Natalie Maines in 1995.
The group aroused considerable controversy for publicly denouncing President George W. Bush and the imminent invasion of Iraq during the European leg of their Top of the World tour supporting Home. Many country music stations immediately pulled their music from the air, and the band received criticism from many corners of the media.
I Can Love You Much Better

She's got you wrapped up in her satin and lace
Tied around her little finger
She's got you thinking you can never escape
Don't you know your heart's in danger
There's a devil in that angel face
If you could only see the love that you're wasting.
I can love you better than that
I know how to make you forget her
All I'm asking is for one little chance
'Cause baby, I can love you baby, I can love you better
I'm gonna break the spell she's got on you
You're gonna wake up to find
I'm your desire my intentions are true
Hey babe, I know in time
You're gonna see what you mean to me
So open up your eyes 'cause seeing is believing
I can love you better than that
I know how to make you forget her
All I'm asking is for one little chance
'Cause baby, I can love you baby, I can love you better
Oh-n-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh yeah-ee-yeah-eah-eah-eah ooh-ooh,
Yeah I can love you better than that
I know how to make you forget her
All I'm asking is for one little chance
'Cause baby, I can love you, baby I can love you
I can love you better then that
I know how to make you forget her
All I'm asking is for one little chance
'Cause baby, I can love you baby I can love you better
Oh-n-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ooh yeah-ee-yeah-eah-eah-eah ooh-ooh
Yeah I can love you better than that
I know how to make you forget her
All I'm asking is for one little chance
'Cause baby, I can love you, baby I can love you
I can love you better than that
I can love you better
I can love you better than that
Baby I can love you
Baby I can love you better
The lyrics of "I Can Love You Better" by Dixie Chicks speak of a woman who is trying to win over a man who is already in a relationship with someone else. She sees through the other woman's facade of shiny things and pretty clothing, and warns the man that his heart is in danger. The singer of the song presents herself as a better suitor for him, promising to make him forget about the current woman in his life. She recognizes the potential in the relationship and pleads with the man to give her a chance to show him how much better she can love him.
The lyrics of the song have a sense of urgency and desperation to them, reflecting the singer's strong desire to win over the man. She does not sugarcoat things, and tells him to open his eyes and see what he means to her. The song's catchy melody and upbeat tempo further reinforces this message of hope and affection.
Overall, "I Can Love You Better" is a powerfully emotive song that speaks to the deep human desire for love and acceptance. It's a classic example of the Dixie Chicks' signature blend of strong, confident lyrics and infectious country pop sound.

I'll be a Dixie chicks fan forever. I got their first cd for my 6th birthday and I wore that thing out. Now at 26 I'm still jamming out to their music.

I found the cassette tape of theirs in a used car that I bought a long long time ago when cassettes and cassette players were in cars lol. So I put that baby in the cassette player and I started playing it. I liked it so much that I ended up playing it for like weeks straight, exclusively. I was never a country fan back then, but they just made such happy sounding music was so much soul and was so much talent. Not only that, their songwriting ability is truly at another level. I mean these ladies are actual artists. Not just pop musicians. Now I was a young dude so it was kind of embarrassing to like it so much. I would turn it down when people were next to my car. I eventually stopped being embarrassed by it and would just blast it and smile at people. I'm a fan... Now of course I'm grown, so I'll be listening to the sappiest song by any artist and I'll just blast it shamelessly. But I'm pretty sure that the Dixie Chicks were the first group that broke that barrier in me
