The trio is currently ranked as the highest-selling female musical group in the USA, according to RIAA Gold & Platinum album certifications. As of 2012, The Chicks had won 13 Grammy Awards. While The Chicks continues, Maguire and Robison are writing and recording as Court Yard Hounds as of Feb 2010. The Dixie Chicks renamed the band in 2020 to The Chicks dropping Dixie from the official name as the name had the word 'Dixie' referencing the American Mason–Dixon line, which separated the free and slave-owning southern states.
Robin Lynn Macy was an original bandmember, as was Laura Lynch. Macy left the group in 1992, while Lynch was replaced by Natalie Maines in 1995.
The group aroused considerable controversy for publicly denouncing President George W. Bush and the imminent invasion of Iraq during the European leg of their Top of the World tour supporting Home. Many country music stations immediately pulled their music from the air, and the band received criticism from many corners of the media.
Thin Line

And some seem to last forever
Some days it's all you want
And some days it never never
Won't you tell me why
Things couldn't be a little easier
Some days everything is cool
And some days I can't get it together
'Cause there's a thin line, yeah,
Between wrong and right, between black and white
It's been a long time, yeah,
Since I could close my eyes and see the light
And there's some sunshine, baby,
Shining down on me and it's all I need
To see the thin line, between me and you and you and me
How do things get so messed up
And seem so out of control
It's time to wake up, make our minds up
Time to get out of this hole
Won't you tell me why
It's as easy as you let it be
It's so hard to see the other side
When you won't let go of what you think you know
Because there's a thin line, yeah,
Between wrong and right, between black and white
It's been a long time, yeah,
Since I could close my eyes and see the light
And there's some sunshine, baby,
Shining down on me and it's all I need to see
The thin line between me and you and you and me
Don't look so sad
Let's see if we can find
A way to make things right between us
And while we can't change each other's minds
We'll pick each other up again every time
And there's a thin line, yeah,
Between wrong and right, between black and white
It's been a long time, yeah,
Since I could close my eyes and see the light
There's some sunshine, baby,
Shining down on me and it's all I need
To see the thin line between me and you and you and me
'Cause it's a thin line, yeah,
Between wrong and right, between black and white
It's been a long time, yeah,
Since I could close my eyes and see the light
There's some sunshine, baby,
Shining down on me and it's all I need
To see the thin line between me and you and you and me
Because it's a mighty thin line
"Thin Line" is a poignant song about how easily relationships can become strained and how difficult it can be to maintain connections with those we care about. The songwriting in this track is filled with vivid imagery that makes listeners really feel the emotions conveyed in the lyrics. The first verse discusses the ups and downs of life, with some days feeling like everything is going smoothly and others feeling like nothing is going right. The chorus talks about the thin line between right and wrong, black and white, and how it can be hard to know which way to go. The second verse implores listeners to wake up and take control of their lives, while the bridge offers a message of hope, suggesting that there is always a way to make things right if we are willing to try.
Overall, "Thin Line" is a powerful reminder that relationships take work and that it's important to make time for the people we care about. The song encourages listeners to be introspective and consider their own behavior, while also offering a message of hope that even when things go wrong, we can always find a way back to the people we love.

Some days rock and some days roll
Life has its ups and downs
And some seem to last forever
On some days, time passes slowly
Some days it's all you want
We have our good days
And some days it never never
On some days, nothing seems to go right
Won't you tell me why
Asking for an explanation
Things couldn't be a little easier
Life could be less complicated
Some days everything is cool
Life can be good sometimes
And some days I can't get it together
On some days, it's hard to be productive
'Cause there's a thin line, yeah,
We live in a complex world
Between wrong and right, between black and white
It's not always clear what the right thing to do is
It's been a long time, yeah,
It's hard to find clarity in life
Since I could close my eyes and see the light
It's hard to have a clear vision of the future
And there's some sunshine, baby,
Sometimes we get lucky
Shining down on me and it's all I need
We just need a little bit of luck to succeed
To see the thin line, between me and you and you and me
The world is divided in many ways
How do things get so messed up
Wondering how things got complicated
And seem so out of control
Feeling like everything is chaotic
It's time to wake up, make our minds up
It's up to us to take control
It's so hard to see the other side
It's hard to see things from a different perspective
When you won't let go of what you think you know
It's hard to change opinions
Don't look so sad
Trying to cheer someone up
Let's see if we can find
Encouraging teamwork
A way to make things right between us
Trying to fix a bad situation
And while we can't change each other's minds
Respecting differing opinions
We'll pick each other up again every time
Supporting each other through hard times
Because it's a mighty thin line
The world is divided in many ways (repeated line)
