They were the ninth most listened to 'new band' of 2008 on Last.fm and were included in the best alternative music list of 2008 on iTunes USA.
The band revealed the origins of their name as being from British sitcom The Office.
Synth Player Dan Coop, NME.com interview:
Everybody thinks the name is some kind of statement but it's a quote from David Brent in an episode of The Office. "When me and James Rushent first started writing music together we decided to put it up on MySpace. We needed a name to put as our profile name so just put what was the first thing that was said on TV, we switched it on and Ricky Gervais said "Does it offend you, yeah? My drinking?" so we just went with that. No thought went into it whatsoever.

Like a man who was running from the rest of time
I can't move now
It's all doomed now
All these things ruined always was a good time
The emergency I haven't got a lot of time
I can't hear now
I must leave now
We have the right to succeed
With the fear I'm in
You have to push me in
We have the right to succeed
With the fear I'm in
You have to push me in
We came like a bullet from the valentine
Don't understand of my running's a waste of time
I can't speak now
I can't feel now
All these things better always was a bad time
Think emergency we didn't get a lot of time
I can't speak now
I can't feel now
We have the right to succeed
With the fear I'm in
You have to push me in
We have the right to succeed
With the fear I'm in
We came like a bullet from the valentine
Like a man who was running from the rest of time
I can't move now
It's all doomed now
All these things ruined always was a good time
The emergency I haven't got a lot of time
I can't hear now
I must leave now
We have the right to succeed
With the fear I'm in
You have to push me in
We have the right to succeed
With the fear I'm in
You have to push me in
You have to push me in
The lyrics to "Doomed Now" by Does It Offend You Yeah? are cryptic and leave a lot of room for interpretation. The first stanza seems to describe a situation where the singer and their companions are racing towards an unknown destination. They may be escaping something or chasing after a goal, but either way, they seem to have stopped in their tracks and can no longer move. The second stanza introduces the idea that, despite feeling stuck, they have a right to succeed. This could be interpreted as a message of resilience or motivation to keep pushing forward, even in the face of difficulty.
The chorus repeats the line "We have the right to succeed" several times, followed by "With the fear I'm in, You have to push me in." This line implies that the singer is afraid, but they need someone else to help motivate them to reach their potential.
The second verse is quite similar to the first, but with some variations in the lyrics. The idea of feeling stuck or unable to move is repeated and the emergency seems more urgent, with the singer having little time to spare. The song returns to the chorus again, with its message of needing someone else's help to succeed.
The overall meaning of the song is difficult to pin down, but the themes of perseverance, fear, and the need for support are all present. The lyrics seem to describe a journey towards a goal, with a group of people working together to overcome obstacles and reach success.
