Do You Know?
Dogs Of Peace Lyrics

As it was sinkin' low
Still higher than a dream had ever dared to go
I looked again
And it turned to rain
Feelin' the sting and wondering
From where this came
Do you know?
Do you know?
I saw the sun
As it was comin' 'round
It occurred to me that we are only spinnin' 'round
Hey Mr. Sun
Or for that matter anyone
Can you solve for me the mystery
Of how it gets done?
Do you know?
Do you know?
Do you know?
Do you know?
What do you know
If you don't know me?
There was a voice
And it was far away
Though dreamily it seems to me I heard it say
Do you know?
Do you know?
Do you know me?
Do you know?
Who do you know
If you don't know me?
The lyrics of "Do You Know?" by Dogs of Peace seem to be an introspection of the singer who is questioning the mysteries of the universe and the need for connecting with other human beings. The first stanza talks about how the moon which is considered to be a source of inspiration and hope for many, suddenly turns into rain which brings about a certain unease and confusion. The singer questions the sudden shift in nature and wonders where it all emanates from. This could be interpreted as a metaphor for how something that is considered beautiful and hope-generating can turn into something dubious and unsettling in a matter of moments, leaving people confused.
In the second stanza, the singer looks at the sun and how it comes up every day, indicating the repeated patterns of life. The singer questions if anyone knows the mystery behind how everything falls into place and how life follows a set of rules that we have no control over. The singer then questions why these patterns and mysteries exist if we don't have an understanding of them. Finally, the voice in the last stanza seems to question who we know if we don't know ourselves, leading to a search for a deeper understanding of oneself and the world.
Overall, the song seems to be an introspective journey that questions the mysteries of the universe and the need for a greater understanding of the self.

Years ago, my then boyfriend introduced me to this song and these lyrics had such an impact on me: "Who do you know, if you don't know Me?". I am now a born again Christian and I know God. I know His love and mercy. And for that I am thankful.

The word that comes to mind when I hear this song is "epic". Not in the sense in which it's overused today, but in the sense of the dictionary definition: "noting or pertaining to a long poetic composition, usually centered upon a hero, in which a series of great achievements or events is narrated in elevated style:"
I imagine the hero is the guitar, and we are guided along the journey by the guitar as it takes us up the peaks and down in to the valleys of this sonic adventure.
