Jolene
Dolly Parton Lyrics
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him just because you can
Your beauty is beyond compare
With flaming locks of auburn hair
With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green
Your smile is like a breath of spring
Your voice is soft like summer rain
Jolene
He talks about you in his sleep
And there's nothing I can do to keep
From crying when he calls your name
Jolene
And I can easily understand
How you could easily take my man
But you don't know what he means to me
Jolene
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him just because you can
You could have your choice of men
But I could never love again
He's the only one for me
Jolene
I had to have this talk with you
My happiness depends on you
And whatever you decide to do
Jolene
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
I'm begging of you please don't take my man
Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene
Please don't take him even though you can
Jolene, Jolene

What I love about this song is that she’s not like “fuck off you ugly bitch” she’s recognising her beauty but also expressing her insecurity about how fragile love is. It’s a very tender song but a powerful exclamation of her emotions.

It's called class. She's a sweet heart and a class act.

I love the psychology of Dolly. She’s hyping Jolene up trying to tell her she has her pick of ANY MAN and just begging her not to take hers. It’s so beautifully done.

@N i'd say it depends on the situation

@N A cheat is always trash, but if the side piece knows the cheat is married or taken, then they are just as guilty. It take two to tango. If the side piece doesn't know, then it is solely the cheater in the wrong. Besides, Dolly said on her show in the 80s that although her marriage survived, she 'beat the tar' out of her husband after the initial fight with Jolene (not her real name) who ripped off Dolly's wig and beat her with it.

@Nuh. An intelligent person can blame both the man who cheated on her, and the woman who she thought was her friend.
