Any Dream Will Do
Donny Osmond Lyrics

[Joseph]

I closed my eyes, drew back the curtain
To see for certain what I thought I knew
Far far away, someone was weeping
But the world was sleeping
Any dream will do
[Joseph & Children]

I wore my coat, with golden lining
Bright colours shining, wonderful and new
And in the east, the dawn was breaking
And the world was waking
Any dream will do

[Joseph]

A crash of drums, a flash of light
My golden coat flew out of sight
The colours faded into darkness
I was left alone

[Joseph & Children]

May I return to the beginning
The light is dimming, and the dream is too
The world and I, we are still waiting
Still hesitating
Any dream will do
Joseph

A crash of drums, a flash of light
My golden coat flew out of sight
The colours faded into darkness
I was left alone

[Joseph & Children]

May I return to the beginning
The light is dimming, and the dream is too
The world and I, we are still waiting

Still hesitating
Any dream will do

Overall Meaning

The song, "Any Dream Will Do" by Donny Osmond, is a ballad sung by the biblical character Joseph. The song begins with Joseph closing his eyes and drawing back the curtain, depicting a sense of mystery in what he is about to see. As the scene unfolds, Joseph realizes that someone is weeping far away, while the rest of the world is sleeping. However, he remains hopeful and believes that any dream will do.

As the song progresses, Joseph wears his coat with the golden lining, signifying the power and importance he possessed. The colors of his coat shine bright and new, as the dawn breaks in the east, and the world slowly wakes up to a new day. However, the scene quickly changes as a crash of drums and a flash of light result in Joseph's golden coat flying out of sight. The colors of the coat fade into darkness, and Joseph is left alone.

As the final chorus is sung, Joseph and the children express a longing to return to the beginning, to when the dream was still vivid and the light was bright. However, they are still waiting, still hesitating, and still hopeful that any dream will do. The lyrics provide a message of hope and resilience, encouraging listeners to keep dreaming, even when the world seems to be sleeping.

i hate every last one of them for the fact they used to bring kids on school trips to see this live in concert against their will or input. I was one of those kids and it was bloody horrible lol.

I still haven't forgiven my primary5-year teacher for it, nor has any of the classmates who were there hahahahaha. I have every right to hate this musical, as I've been repressing this damned song in particular for TWENTY - FOUR - BLOODY YEARS!!!!!!!
