Then why can't I paint you?
The words will never show
The 'You' I've come to know
If a face could launch a thousand ships
Then where am I to go?
There's no one home but you
And when my love for life is running dry
You come and pour yourself on me
If a man could be two places
At one time I'd be with you
Tomorrow and today
Beside you all the way
If the world should stop revolving
Spinning slowly down to die
I'd spend the end with you
And when the world was through
Then one by one the stars would all go out
Then you and I would simply fly away
The song "If" by Donny Osmond is a beautiful love ballad that expresses the intensity and depth of a person's love for their significant other. The lyrics make use of powerful imagery to convey the emotions and feelings that the singer is experiencing. The first verse of the song suggests that words can't do justice in describing the person the singer has come to love. The second verse further emphasizes this by stating that a face can launch a thousand ships, but still, the singer is left with only the person they love. The third verse of the song expresses the singer's desire to always be with their loved one, even in the face of the world's end.
The song uses various literary devices such as metaphors to convey the depth of the singer's feelings. The lyrics of the song suggest an intense longing that the singer has for their loved one. The line "You come and pour yourself on me" indicates the intense emotional connection that the singer has with their loved one. The song's last verse is particularly poetic, with the line "then you and I would simply fly away" conveying a deep sense of escape and relief. The song is a beautiful representation of the love that two people share, and the ways in which it can make us want to escape our mundane existence.

If a picture paints a thousand words
A picture can capture the essence of something better than words ever could

There's no one home but you
It is with you that I feel at home and where I'm most at ease
You're all that's left me too

During times when life seems monotonous and stagnant
You come and pour yourself on me
I turn to you for rejuvenation, and you never fail to lift me up
If a man could be two places
If only it were possible to be in two locations simultaneously
At one time I'd be with you
Because I don't want to miss out on spending time with you, no matter where I am
Tomorrow and today

Beside you all the way
Because I'll always be with you, come what may
If the world should stop revolving
If the world were to end, and everything we know ceased to exist
Spinning slowly down to die
Coming to a gradual and inevitable end
I'd spend the end with you
I'd rather spend the last moments of my life by your side
And when the world was through
Once everything else comes to a halt
Then one by one the stars would all go out
The stars, that were previously illuminating the sky, would all fade out one by one
Then you and I would simply fly away
But with you, I'd still be able to escape and soar into the unknown
