The name of the ba… Read Full Bio ↴The Donots formed in 1993 in Ibbenbüren, Germany.
The name of the band came into being by chance: The bassist of the band, Jan-Dirk Poggemann wanted to name the band like the pastries donuts, but he wrote the name the wrong way by mistake. The other band members liked the name, because they found their philosophy in the name (donots = do nothing, like slackers), so they retained the name. Very rarely the band calls themselves "Ibbtown Rockers" because of their provenance.
The US edition of “Wake The Dogs” features 14 new songs from the punk-veterans, plus 2 additional bonus tracks not included in the original German release, and was released on OK! Good Records.

Donots Lyrics

Mr. and Mrs. second rate
All you drama drag queens
Got 15 minutes to fuck up
Until the crowd has had enough
Smile and let the show begin, yeah
Plastic doesn't burn
Into something disposable
When the lights go out
Vanish like your crowd
Whoo-hooo, whoo-hooo
And get what you deserve
Get what you deserve
Inject what money can afford
I'll see you all at betty ford's
Take a bow and the backdoor
Your bad intentions will get worse
I wanna watch your closet burst
When your skeletons don't fit no more
Plastic doesn't burn
It just stinks and turns
Into something disposable
When the lights go out
Gonna steal your crown
Whoo-hooo, whoo-hooo
You'll get what you deserve
Get what you deserve (the jerk parade)
Plastic doesn't burn
It just stinks and turns
Into something disposable
When the lights go out
Take your final bow
Whoo-hooo, whoo-hooo, whoo-hooo
And don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out

The opening line of the song "Line up now for the jerk parade" introduces the idea of a parade of unpleasant or obnoxious individuals. The lyrics go on to describe these people as "Mr. and Mrs. second rate" and "drama drag queens" who are given only 15 minutes to entertain the crowd until they have had enough. The song seems to be a commentary on the fleeting nature of fame and the disposable nature of modern culture. The line "plastic doesn't burn, it just stinks and turns into something disposable" is particularly poignant and suggests that these "jerk parade" participants are ultimately disposable in the eyes of society.
The lyrics also touch on the idea of hypocrisy and moral ambiguity. The line "take a bow and the backdoor, your bad intentions will get worse" implies that these individuals are not only superficial and disposable, but also potentially dangerous or harmful. The line "I wanna watch your closet burst when your skeletons don't fit no more" suggests that these individuals are hiding some sort of dark secret or past, which will ultimately catch up with them.
