The name of the band came into being by chance: The bassist of the band, Jan-Dirk Poggemann wanted to name the band like the pastries donuts, but he wrote the name the wrong way by mistake. The other band members liked the name, because they found their philosophy in the name (donots = do nothing, like slackers), so they retained the name. Very rarely the band calls themselves "Ibbtown Rockers" because of their provenance.
The US edition of “Wake The Dogs” features 14 new songs from the punk-veterans, plus 2 additional bonus tracks not included in the original German release, and was released on OK! Good Records.

Feel like a vampire in my bed
Been so restless, a total mess
It's just the hammers in my head
Take me down, underground
Whoo-hooo, hey, whoo-hooo
I'll disappear without a sound
Won't you help me?
Take me down, underground
I'll find my peace when i
Lay me down, underground
Whoo-hooo, hey, whoo-hooo
The lullabies and pills don't work no more
So please lobotomize my brain
Or take the shovel and dig a hole
Because i'll wake up, wake up dead again
Take me down, underground
Whoo-hooo, hey, whoo-hooo
I'll disappear without a sound
Put my bones to sleep
Won't you help me
Take me down, underground
I'll find my peace when i
Lay me down, underground
Whoohooo, hey, whoohooo
Take a crucifix or take the holy water
Can't you just put me to rest?
Take the silver bullets, take the wooden stakes and
Drive them deep into my chest
Do me in...
Can't you just put me to rest?
Do me in...
Drive them deep into my chest
Take me down, underground
Whoo-hooo, hey, whoo-hooo
I'll disappear without a sound
Put my bones to sleep
Won't you help me?
Take me down, underground
I'll find eternal peace
Put me down, underground
Whoo-hooo, hey, whoo-hooo
War is over
The Donots' song "Disappear" is about the singer's struggle with insomnia and the desire to find a way to escape from the exhaustion and insomnia that they are experiencing. The lyrics of the song paint an evocative picture of someone who is struggling to cope with the agony of sleeplessness. The morning daylight dawns on his bloodshot eyes, and he feels like a vampire in bed. The singer has been so restless, and it has taken a severe toll on him. He's a "total mess," his head aches, and he can't get any sleep. In the song, he is calling out to someone to take him down, underground, where he can get some rest, where he can find some peace.
Throughout the song, the singer also references other traditional ways of taking down vampires to reflect his desperation to escape his state. The lullabies and pills that he used to take no longer work, and he even suggests that lobotomy or death through the wooden stakes would be better than living with this agony. He wants to disappear without a sound and be allowed to rest, once and for all.
Overall, "Disappear" is an emotional song that captures the singer's intense desire to escape from their current state of emotional and physical exhaustion.
