The name of the band came into being by chance: The bassist of the band, Jan-Dirk Poggemann wanted to name the band like the pastries donuts, but he wrote the name the wrong way by mistake. The other band members liked the name, because they found their philosophy in the name (donots = do nothing, like slackers), so they retained the name. Very rarely the band calls themselves "Ibbtown Rockers" because of their provenance.
The US edition of “Wake The Dogs” features 14 new songs from the punk-veterans, plus 2 additional bonus tracks not included in the original German release, and was released on OK! Good Records.

No, we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore
We've got the right to choose and
There ain't no way we'll lose it
This is our life, this is our song
We'll fight the powers that be just
You don't know us, you don't belong
We're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore
Oh you're so condescending
Your gall is never ending
We don't want nothin', not a thing from you
Your life is trite and jaded
Boring and confiscated
If that's your best, your best won't do
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
We're right, yeah
We're free, yeah
We'll fight, yeah
You'll see, yeah
We're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore
We're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore
Oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh
We're right, yeah
We're free, yeah
We'll fight, yeah
You'll see, yeah
We're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore
We're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore
We're not gonna take it

We're not gonna take it
No, we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore
We're not gonna take it
We'll fight the powers that be
No, we ain't gonna take it
Don't pick our destiny
We're not gonna take it anymore
The Donots' song "We're Not Gonna Take It" is an anthem of rebellion and empowerment. The lyrics convey a sense of frustration and anger towards authority figures who try to control and define people's lives. The opening lines "We're not gonna take it, no, we ain't gonna take it, we're not gonna take it anymore" serve as a bold statement of defiance and a call to action.
The chorus stresses the importance of choice and the right to live life on one's own terms. The line "We've got the right to choose and there ain't no way we'll lose it" is a reminder to stand up for oneself and not allow anyone to take away their autonomy. The following lines "This is our life, this is our song, we'll fight the powers that be just don't pick our destiny 'cause you don't know us, you don't belong" emphasize the importance of individuality and the rejection of conformity.
The second verse contains more direct criticism of the authority figure in question. The lines "Oh you're so condescending, your gall is never ending, we don't want nothing, not a thing from you" highlight the arrogance and dismissiveness of those in power. The lines "Your life is trite and jaded, boring and confiscated, if that's your best, your best won't do" suggest that the singer is unimpressed with what the authority figure has to offer and is not willing to settle for less.
Overall, "We're Not Gonna Take It" is a powerful message of self-determination and resistance against those who seek to limit one's potential. The lyrics encourage listeners to express themselves freely and refuse to be controlled or manipulated.
