You Made A Fool Of Me
Doris Lyrics

Saying I couldn't make love
Maybe I didn't know how
To handle tough guys like you
You made a fool of me last night
Throwing out terrible lies
Saying things that were not nice
You made romance to the girls who were my friends
To make me jealous and weak
But all the comical stories that you tell
Just make me sick
You made a fool of me last night
Don't try to call me again
You are no longer my man
Please try to find someone new
You made a fool of me last night
Saying I couldn't make love
Maybe I didn't know how
To handle tough guys like you
You made romance to the girls who were my friends
To make me jealous and weak
But all the comical stories that you tell
Just make me sick
You made a fool of me last night
Don't try to call me again
You are no longer my man
Please try to find someone new
In the song "You Made a Fool of Me," Doris expresses the pain and disappointment she feels at being deceived by someone she trusted. The opening lines of the song suggest that the person she was with the previous night had belittled her sexual prowess, implying that she was not good enough for him. The lyric "Maybe I didn't know how to handle tough guys like you" suggests that this was a pattern of behavior, as though the person she was with was a bully who needed to assert himself by putting her down in front of others.
The song goes on to describe how this person had made her feel jealous and weak by making romance to her female friends. The lyric "But all the comical stories that you tell just make me sick" suggests that the person was not only hurtful but also not very amusing. The final lines of the song make it clear that Doris is moving on and that she doesn't want to be with this person anymore. "Don't try to call me again" is a sign that she is done with him, and "Please try to find someone new" is a suggestion that he needs to take his toxic behavior elsewhere.
