Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

Come to Baby Do!
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Fast as I could take a choo-choo
I came a long, long, long, long way
To take you in my arms
And now it's your first move
To prove that you've been true
Come to baby, do.
Way beyond the blue horizon
I'm hopin' no, no, no, no
No one else is on your mind
So pucker up, my sweet
And meet your Waterloo
Come to baby, do
Stop! Me from guessin'
Tain't no time to tease
Stop! All this messing!
And put your beggin' baby at ease
I wanna love, love, love you
Just the way I wanna love you
I'm gonna try, try, try to make you try to understand
When all is said and done, the one for me is you
Come to baby do
Stop! All this messing!
And put your beggin' baby at ease
I wanna love, love, love you
Just the way I wanna love you
I'm gonna try, try, try to make you try to understand
When all is said and done, the one for me is you
Come to baby do
The lyrics of Doris Day's song Come to Baby Do express the desire for love and affection from someone who has been away for quite some time. The singer took a train to reach the person they long for and hopes that there is no one else on their mind. The lyrics use repetition, such as "choo-choo-choo-choo" and "way, way, way, way" to emphasize the length of the journey and the distance that the two individuals were from each other.
The singer urges the person to take the first step towards them and prove that they have been faithful. The lines "Stop! Me from guessin' Tain't no time to tease" show that they are impatient for this person to express their true feelings and not lead them on. Ultimately, the singer declares their love and the desire to be loved the way they want to be loved. The phrase "come to baby do" is a plea for the other person to give in to their desires and be with them.

I took a choo-choo-choo-choo
I traveled as fast as a train could carry me
Fast as I could take a choo-choo
I wasted no time getting to you
I came a long, long, long, long way

To take you in my arms
To hold you tight
And now it's your first move
It's up to you to take the next step
To prove that you've been true
To show that you've been faithful to me
Come to baby, do
Come to me, my love
You've been a way, way, way, way
You've been gone for a long time
