Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

Who's gonna thrill me
Who's gonna hold me tight
Tonight
Why did I tell you I was going to Shanghai
I wannna be with you tonight
Why did I holler I was going to Shanghai
It was just a little misunderstanding
That a kiss on the cheek could patch
I need you so badly, I'd gladly
Start all over from scratch
Oh, why did I tell you it was bye bye for Shanghai
I'm even allergic to rice
Why don't you stop me when I talk about Shanghai
It's just a lover's device
Now, who's gonna kiss me
Who's gonna thrill me
Who's gonna hold me tight
I'm right around the corner in the phone booth
And I wannna be with you tonight
Now, why did I tell you it was bye bye for Shanghai
I'm even allergic to rice
Why don't you stop me when I talk about Shanghai
It's just a lover's device
Now, who's gonna kiss me
Who's gonna thrill me
Who's gonna hold me tight
I'm right around the corner in the phone booth
And I wannna be with you tonight
Ooh ooh ooh who's gonna kiss me
Who's gonna thrill me
Who's gonna hold me tight
I'm right around the corner in the phone booth
And I wanna, yes I wanna
I wanna be with you tonight
The Doris Day song "My Wonderful One" is a passionate love ballad that expresses the feeling of unconditional love for someone. The first stanza of the song shows that the singer's love is unwavering, and they are always thinking about their loved one, whether they are awake or sleeping. The singer's heart is in their loved one's care, and they are calling out for them in a soft and low voice. The second stanza of the song speaks of the singer's dream world, where they see their loved one shining with love's lovelight. The singer then expresses the longing to hold their loved one, cuddle with them, and fold them in their arms. The final stanza of the song declares how the singer's love is only for their loved one and that no one else can compare. In the shadowy twilight or in the silvery moonlight, the singer will live their life for their wonderful one.

That I love you so
I want you to know that I love you deeply and sincerely
Awake or sleeping
Whether I am awake or asleep, you are always on my mind
My heart's in your keeping
I have given you my heart and trust you to take care of it
And calling to you soft and low
I am reaching out to you gently and tenderly with my love
My wonderful one
My beloved, the one who brings light and joy to my life
Whenever I'm dreaming
Even in my dreams, you are always by my side
Love's lovelight a-gleaming I see
I see the beautiful glow of love in our relationship
How my arms ache to hold, dear
I long to hold you close and cherish our moments together
To cuddle and fold you to me
I want to embrace you and feel your warmth and love
Just you, only you
You are the only one I love and want to be with
In the shadowy twilight
During the quiet, peaceful moments of the day and night
In silvery moonlight
When the moon shines bright and lights up the night sky
There's none like you, I adore you
There is no one like you and I love and cherish you deeply
My life I'll live for you
I will dedicate my life to making you happy and fulfilling our dreams together
Oh, my wonderful, wonderful one
You are truly wonderful and I am grateful for your presence in my life

When I was just a little girl
I asked my mother, what will I be
Will I be pretty? Will I be rich?
Here's what she said to me
Que sera, sera
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be
When I grew up and fell in love
I asked my sweetheart what lies ahead?
Will we have rainbows day after day?
Here's what my sweetheart said
Que sera, sera
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be
Now I have children of my own
They ask their mother, what will I be
Will I be handsome? Will I be rich?
I tell them tenderly
Que sera, sera
Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours to see
Que sera, sera
What will be, will be
Que sera, sera
