Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

Everybody Loves A Lover
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I'm a lover, everybody loves me
Anyhow, that's how I feel
Wow, I feel just like a Pollyanna
I should worry, not for nothin'
Everybody loves me, yes they do
And I love everybody
Who's the most popular personality
I can't help thinkin' it's no one else but me
Gee, I feel just about ten feet tall, havin' a ball
Guess ya might call me a Pollyanna
Everybody loves a lover
Everybody loves a lover
I'm a lover, everybody loves me
Anyhow, that's how I feel
Wow, I feel just like a Pollyanna
I should worry, not for nothin'
Everybody loves me, yes they do
And I love everybody
Since I fell in love with
Fell in love with
Fell in love with you
The lyrics to Doris Day's classic song "Everybody Loves a Lover" tell the tale of a person who is in love and feeling content. The opening lines state that everyone loves a lover, and the singer suggests that because she is a lover, everyone loves her as well. Despite this somewhat egotistical sentiment, the singer maintains a positive outlook by comparing herself to Pollyanna, a character in children's literature known for her unwavering optimism. The lyrics indicate that the singer is not worried about anything because she is loved by everyone, and she claims to return that love. The song's upbeat melody and infectious chorus encourage listeners to sing along and bask in the joy of being in love.

@therealzilch
I have to listen to this every once in a while. It's the perfect incarnation of guileless self love. What a great performer, and a clever composition, with the two parts working as a duet as well.
@JessicaWilliamspianist
I've started most days for the last five years with this song. I carry it with me on my cell-phone, and I sing along with it if I get to feeling low. This gift from my favorite singer, Doris Day, is far better than any anti-depressant. No wonder doggies loved her. We all loved her.
