Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

Hurry It's Lovely Up Here
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Up with which below can't compare with
Hurry, it's lovely up here ,
Life down a hole takes an awful toll
What with not a soul there to share with
Hurry, it's lovely up here!
Wake up, bestir yourself, it's time that you disinter yourself
And what a gift package of showers, sun and love
You'll be met above everywhere with,
Fondled and sniffed by millions who drift by
Life here is rosy, if you're a posy
Hurry it's lovely here!
Climb up geranium, it can't be fun subterran-ium
On the exterior, it's cheerier
RSVP peonies, pollinate the breeze,
Make the queen of bees hot as brandy
Come give at least a preview of Easter
Come up and see the good we're giving
Come up and see the grounds for living
Come poke your head out
Open up and spread out
Hurry it's lovely here!
The song Hurry It's Lovely Up Here by Doris Day is a cheerful and optimistic tune that encourages people to look up and notice the beauty of the world around them. The lyrics invite listeners to climb up and see the world from a different perspective, pointing out that life can be tough when living down a hole. The phrase "up is where to grow" implies that facing challenges and striving for something better can lead to growth and fulfillment.
The next set of lines encourages listeners to wake up, bestir themselves and seize the day. The line "you've got a spot to fill, a pot to fill" is a call to action, urging people to find their place in the world and contribute to it. The song goes on to describe the natural wonders that await those who "come up" and notice them. The phrase "fondled and sniffed by millions who drift by" suggests that even the most beautiful things in life can be taken for granted, and that it is important to appreciate and enjoy them while we can.

Love it! From an old Broadway show "On A Clear Day You Can See Forever" by Burton Lane & Alan Jay Lerner & currently being revived with Harry Connick. Originally sung by the wonderful Barbara Harris - Doris would coax me right out to the surface like all these plants she is singing to here. :-)
