Day's film career began during the latter part of the Classical Hollywood Film era with the 1948 film Romance on the High Seas, and its success sparked her twenty-year career as a motion picture actress. She starred in a series of successful films, including musicals, comedies, and dramas. She played the title role in Calamity Jane (1953), and starred in Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956) with James Stewart. Her most successful films were the bedroom comedies she made co-starring Rock Hudson and James Garner, such as Pillow Talk (1959) and Move Over, Darling (1963), respectively. She also co-starred in films with such leading men as Clark Gable, Cary Grant, David Niven, and Rod Taylor. After her final film in 1968, she went on to star in the CBS sitcom The Doris Day Show (1968–1973).
Day was usually one of the top ten singers between 1951 and 1966. As an actress, she became the biggest female film star in the early 1960s, and ranked sixth among the box office performers by 2012. In 2011, she released her 29th studio album, My Heart, which became a UK Top 10 album featuring new material. Among her awards, Day has received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and a Legend Award from the Society of Singers. In 1960, she was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and in 1989 was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in motion pictures. In 2004, she was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush followed in 2011 by the Los Angeles Film Critics Association's Career Achievement Award. She was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Her death was announced by her charity, the Doris Day Animal Foundation, on Monday 13th May 2019.

Rainbow's End
Doris Day Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Though maybe it may seem
To you it's just a dream
I know I'll find the rainbow's end, my friend,(my friend)
Somewhere beyond the sea
It's waiting there for me
That sparkles in the sun just like a fire
And even more than that, the lucky one I'm told
Finds happiness and all their heart's desires
So I'll be goin' on my way, can't stay,(can't stay)
Because you see, my friend I'm gonna find the rainbow's end
For I have heard it said I'll find a pot of gold
That sparkles in the sun just like a fire
And even more than that, the lucky one I'm told
Finds happiness and all their heart's desires,(desires, heart's desires)
So I'll be goin' on my way, can't stay
'Cause you see, my friend I'm gonna find the rainbow's end
Gonna find the rainbow's end
I'm gonna find the rainbow's end
In Doris Day's song "Rainbow's End," the lyrics describe a quest for finding the end of the rainbow, which is often associated with the idea of finding a pot of gold. The singer in the song believes that the rainbow's end holds not just riches but also happiness and fulfillment. The lyrics are filled with optimism and a sense of determination as the singer sets out on this journey.
The song starts with the singer saying that they are looking for the rainbow's end and believes that they will find it despite it just being a dream for others. The singer is confident that they will find the rainbow's end and that it is waiting for them beyond the sea. They have heard that the rainbow's end will offer not just material wealth but also the fulfillment of their heart's desires.
The second verse repeats the idea that the rainbow's end is where one can find a pot of gold and happiness. The singer then says that they cannot stay and must go on their way to find the rainbow's end. The song ends with the singer reaffirming their determination to find the end of the rainbow.
Overall, the song's lyrics encourage a sense of hopefulness and optimism to pursue one's dreams and desires regardless of others' skepticism.
