Following the split of One Dove in 1995, she released her debut single Tomorrow Never Comes in 1998 and the following year saw the LP, Afterglow, released to generally positive reviews. A song-oriented pop outing, it was followed by the electro and house music inspired We Are Science in 2002. Following her folk-like third effort, Exaltation of Larks, she continued further down this path and released her fourth solo album Room 7 1/2 in August 2009.
In addition to solo ventures, Allison's career has concentrated on collaborative efforts, and has seen her work beside the likes of Death in Vegas, Hal David, Arab Strap, Scottish dance troupe Slam, Kevin Shields (of My Bloody Valentine), Peter Doherty/Babyshambles, Gary 'Mani' Mounfield (of The Stone Roses & Primal Scream) and club stalwarts Massive Attack. Dot recently dueted on the co-write Sheepskin Tearaway on Peter Doherty's solo album.
Allison's touring group includes members of The Fall, Two Lone Swordsmen, Tindersticks, Death in Vegas, Massive Attack, and Tokyo Windbag.

Falling from the sun
There's an answer
'Till the daylight comes
Try to catch her
Falling from the sun
There's an answer
'Till the daylight comes
Try to catch her
Falling from the sun
There's an answer
'Till the daylight comes
Try to catch her
Falling from the sun
Maybe you'll die
In her arms
Maybe you'll die
In her arms
Maybe you'll die
In her arms
Maybe you'll die
In her arms
In her arms
In her arms
In her arms
In her arms
There's an answer
'Till the daylight comes
Try to catch her
Falling from the sun
There's an answer
'Till the daylight comes
Try to catch her
Falling from the sun
There's an answer
'Till the daylight comes
Try to catch her
Falling from the sun
There's an answer
'Till the daylight comes
Try to catch her
Falling from the sun
The lyrics of Dot Allison's "Morning Sun" describe the desire to catch something or someone falling from the sun. The repetition of the phrase "try to catch her falling from the sun" implies that this is a task that seems almost impossible. However, there is an answer until the daylight comes, suggesting that there is some sort of temporary solution to whatever problem the singer is facing. The repeated line "maybe you'll die in her arms" adds a sense of danger and risk to the situation.
The focus on the sun throughout the song implies that the thing or person falling from it is something important, perhaps symbolizing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity or a rare chance at happiness. The idea of catching something before it falls implies that it is fragile or fleeting, and that once it is gone, it cannot be retrieved. The ambiguity of the lyrics leaves room for interpretation, allowing the listener to imagine their own meaning.
Overall, "Morning Sun" is a melancholic and reflective song that explores themes of risk, loss, and the fleeting nature of opportunity. The repetition of certain phrases creates a sense of urgency and importance, while the dreamy melody and Allison's haunting vocals add to the overall mood of the song.
