In 2001, doubleDrive began recording a second album with producer John Kurzweg. However, the band subsequently parted with MCA Records and the completed album remained unreleased.
After shopping the album, the band signed with Roadrunner Records and re-entered the studio in 2002 with well-known producer Michael Barbiero to remix part of the album, and to record new songs. The resulting album, Blue in the Face, was released in April 2003. This album yielded a #14 single, the song Imprint. Imprint was also featured on ESPN's Major League Baseball coverage that same year.
doubleDrive toured extensively in the US and Australia, sharing stages with bands such as Sevendust, Kid Rock, Godsmack, Our Lady Peace, Clutch, Type O Negative, Shinedown, Silverchair, Queensrÿche, Finger Eleven, Megadeth, Seether, Tesla, Stereomud, Revis, 12 Stones, Cold, and many others....
On December 3, 2003, doubleDrive played their final show at the Cotton Club in Atlanta.
Singer Donnie Hamby is now doing DVD work (including Sevendust's Southside Doublewide Acoustic Live and Next DVDs, a live Edwin McCain DVD, and many others); guitarist Troy McLawhorn now plays with Dark New Day, Evanescence, and Seether; drummer Mike Froedge now performs with Open Sky Separators, and produces bands in his Atlanta recording studio, Open Sky Studio. Mike and bassist Josh Sattler are also working on a new project with Nick Catanese from Black Label Society, and Mike Stone from Queensryche, tentatively called Speed X.
Inside Out
Doubledrive Lyrics

I went and tripped and fell
Saw the eyes that would follow me
Said take a look at yourself
Getting over the shock and pain
Nerves are twitchin' all over me
I turned inside out today
You made me, you made me
Suffering's got an end
But not for me
What in the world's come over me
Just my guts that I can see
Split down the middle and let 'em go
Spillin' 'em out, spillin' 'em out
A bonafide science book transparency lift
Cross ref the bones and all that shit, you get it
I turned inside out today
I feel exposed, I have to be
Fine fine doin' fine said I'm doin' fine now
You made me, you made me
Cutting into the skin what's left of me
You made me
KOKOKOKO
Right on, right on, right on, right on
Fine fine doin' fine said I'm doin' fine now
You made me, you made me
Cutting into the skin what's left of me
Experiment then it went catastrophe
You made me
The lyrics to Doubledrive's song Inside Out describe someone who has been pushed to their limit and turned “inside out”. They describe the feeling of being exposed and vulnerable, as though the person singing is completely exposed to the world with no way to hide their emotions or pain. The lyrics mention “Suffering’s got an end, but not for me,” which implies that the person feels like their suffering will never truly come to an end or be resolved.
The lines “Just my guts that I can see/Split down the middle and let 'em go/Spillin' 'em out, spillin' 'em out” describe the physical sensation of being turned inside out, how the internal organs or emotions are spilling out into the open for all to see. This is a vivid metaphor for the emotional turmoil that the singer is going through. They feel like they’ve been exposed to the world, completely defenseless, and that someone else is responsible for creating and maintaining their state of vulnerability.
The chorus repeats the lines “I turned inside out today/You made me, you made me”, emphasizing that the person singing the song is not responsible for their current state. They feel like someone else has turned them inside out and made them suffer, leaving them with no control over their emotions or their life.
