Slow
Dr. Atmo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Welcome, welcome, welcome everybody to the At Mos
Walls closing in, getting tunnel vision
Everything going up and down, head spinning
Can't breathe let me out, I'm daydreaming
Hallucinating, waves keep crashing
Hands can't stop shaking
So I use the notes as an antidote
Feel like a poet writing anecdotes
It allows me to cope and keep afloat
I might be at fault chasing a pot of gold
But I'd rather be on the same boat as my homies
Than spend my days in a lab coat
I devote my all to the craft
Strain my throat but it all sounds daft
Ask myself "will I make it?"
And my gut replies "Can the pope's dick fit through a donut?"
Who knows?
Gotta keep up
Slow down
Yeah you gotta keep up
Slow down
(At Mos)
Gotta keep up
Slow down
Yeah you gotta keep up
Slow down
Oriental loop, Sam I am like Seuss
I'm a little more than a man, like Zeus
I stand tall on top of Mount Olympus
I twist around like a gymnast
On the groove, we're the new school
This a who's who of who's you and me, don't fool
Yourself into thinking I rap nonsense
I got a sensitive moral compass
I been around campus, I'm young
Louder than Angus, undone
Is my vow silence
AOC versus big business
Like a vaccine to the sickness
I bring evidence, call a witness
Their abuse is relentless
An overzealous breed predestined
To manifest a greed so reckless
Gotta keep up
Slow down
Yeah you gotta keep up
Slow down
(At Mos)
Gotta keep up
Slow down
Yeah you gotta keep up
Slow down
(I'm a little bit worried ...)
(I'm a little bit worried ...)
I'm a little bit worried 'bout our species
End up rolling around in our own feces
Today we dissect pigs into pieces
Sell em in the stores next to French cheeses
Pray baby Jesus never hears about this
Clear you conscience, sins to dismiss
Ignorance is a bliss, I'm bored but not amiss
Before I learned to piss I was torn in the abyss
I swore never to miss anymore, never quit
Ignore the call of war, the roaring of the ships
The men on all fours attempting to resist
I can see them on the shore, forced to enlist
But the more they try the more they submit
Like toy soldiers imploring to exist
Might never come home to your wife and your kid
Didn't wanna take a life but you did
Gotta keep up
Slow down
Yeah you gotta keep up
Slow down
(At Mos)
Gotta keep up
Slow down

Yeah you gotta keep up
Slow down

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Dr. Atmo's song "Slow" convey a sense of overwhelm and disorientation. The opening lines welcome everyone to the At Mos, setting the stage for a journey into a chaotic and confusing mental space. The walls are closing in and there's a feeling of tunnel vision, as if everything is spinning and it's hard to catch a breath. The singer describes feeling trapped, daydreaming, and hallucinating. The waves crashing and hands shaking create a sense of unease and instability.

To cope with this overwhelming state, the singer turns to music. They use the notes as an antidote, comparing themselves to a poet writing anecdotes. It becomes a way for them to stay afloat amidst the chaos. The lyrics suggest a conflict between chasing material success (represented by the pot of gold) and staying connected with friends and loved ones. The singer questions whether they will make it and their gut responds with a humorous metaphor, emphasizing the uncertainty of the future.

The second verse introduces a shift in focus, addressing social and political issues. The references to Oriental loop and Sam I am allude to cultural diversity and the complexity of identity. The singer compares themselves to Zeus, implying a sense of power and authority. They proclaim to be part of the new school, challenging the status quo and refusing to rap nonsense. They assert having a sensitive moral compass and speak of witnessing abuse and greed by big businesses.

In the final verse, the lyrics turn introspective again, expressing concern for humanity as a whole. The mention of dissecting pigs and selling them alongside French cheeses critiques the commodification and disregard for life. The singer invokes baby Jesus and questions the innocence lost in a world of ignorance. They speak of personal growth and determination not to miss out anymore. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the horrors of war and the toll it takes on individuals, both physically and emotionally.

Overall, "Slow" is a thought-provoking song that explores themes of personal struggle, social critique, and the need to slow down and navigate through life's challenges.

Thanks for uploading. This is ultra-rare and I’ve never heard it in it’s entirety before!

"This music was inspired by the film Koyaanisqatsi (Life Out Of Balance) (Original Soundtrack Album From The Motion Picture) and is intended as an alternative soundtrack. Music starts when film title has disappeared."

With some effort, this really goes together nicely with Koyaanisqatsi. I prefer this soundtrack because it is quite dark and futuristic, plus watching the film gives context to this soundtrack.

FYI: Unfortunately, this soundtrack is not synchronized with the Criterion release of the film. If you start playback when the film title fades to black, the soundtrack is already ahead by 38 seconds when the first 17 minute track ends. At the final climax of the film, this soundtrack is ahead by 1 minute 40. I suppose the Criterion release has been re-cut to accommodate an updated score by Philip Glass.

If you wanna give it a try, you can get an okay experience by synchronizing this alternative soundtrack with the film at various points (for instance 16:45 (detonations), 27:44 (view of Earth?), 38:11 (nightfall or slo-mo people), 64:02 (microchip)), but it's not ideal.
