1)The Dream Warriors are King Lou and Capital Q (aka The Quiet Storm), a pair of Toronto, Canada-based alternative rappers.
2) A metal band from Honduras.

1) They formed in 1988 and released the jazz rap LP And Now, the Legacy Begins in 1991, which was critically acclaimed and sold well in Canada and the United Kingdom. The album spawned the hit single "My Definition of a Boombastic Jazz Style", which featured a prominent sample of Soul Bossa Nova by Quincy Jones which originally appeared on his 1962 LP Big Band Bossa Nova and was also the theme music to the Canadian game show Definition.

The 1994 follow-up, Subliminal Simulation, received mixed reviews, and has since been forgotten by some and named a cult favourite by others; it featured guest vocals by Ishmael Butler of Digable Planets (on the track "Tricycles and Kittens"), and Guru and DJ Premier contributed to two different versions of the song called "I've Lost My Ignorance (and Don't Know Where To Find It").

Their most recent album, 1997's The Master Plan, was poorly received and did not sell well, but they made an appearance in 1999 for The Herbaliser on the track "Road of Many Signs."

What are the lyrics about? I barely spoke English when this was originally released, and later I tried to find the meaning and found some reviews saying that it was basically super cryptic and full of references to current events in the scene, fully opaque even after a year, let alone 30 years. HOLY SHIT it's been 30 years and it was the same year as Enter Sandman, but I thought Enter Sandman was a decade older or something!

It was also in Austin Powers (Quincy Jones sample). Since Mike Myers is Canadian, i'm sure he had some input into this being put in. I was never a big fan of the Dream Warriors but they were the first Canadian rap team to make waves across the border. (mainly due to the Quincy Jones connection)

It wasn't sampled from the game show theme. Quincy wrote Soul Bossa Nova (the correct name for it) for his 1962 album 'Big Band Bossa Nova' and the game show then decided to use it as its theme - the Dream Warriors would have sampled from the original track. Who decided to use it on the Austin Powers movie I've no idea, your theory is credible but it is equally possible the film staff responsible for choosing and commissioning the score (some of the music was written specifically for the film, e.g. the James Taylor Quartet's 'Austin's Theme') just thought it would be a good fit, which of course it was.

My guess is they heard it FIRST through that show. Hell they even say over and over 'My DEFINITION is this'. That was the name of the show. The show Definition was a boring show in Canada and would have been something Myers would have found funny from that aspect. Look up the show and imagine seeing that everyday on TV when there weren't 200 channels to pick from.

(Which I still use to this day - it turns out you can COOK [not just reheat things] a lot of things in the microwave - and even have them come out sort of crisp - I LOVE "deep-browned potatoes" and fried fish - so fast - even faster than just cooking it in a conventional oven or on a stovetop, and one of those upside-down sauce-n-cakes [I don't know what the generic name is.])

Another example of the many, many, many groups who make reference to themselves in a song and end up with the plague of one and (barely) one hit wonder status. Forever to burn into oblivion as a nothing, which basically what they were to begin with. Make note of this theory and it proves itself right.

I don’t think this is the original version of the video for this song. The one I know from the early 1990s has people dancing in an underground jazz club. It starts off with a light bulb hanging from the ceiling that bumps a girl’s head. I knew the girl!

Andrew Givens, your grandparents knew how to cut a rug and tear it up on the dance floor, just like my grandma dancing the Lindy Hop or Charleston, every time I watch this I wish I was there to dance at these shows. I don't think most people realize how earlier generations tore it up at dance parties and shows before we came along, they truly had a lot of heart, not to mention style and coiffure, they had respect. I'd be interested to know at what second they appear if you can pick them out and identify them. Thanks!
