Signing to Island Records through Haqq Islam's University Records imprint, the group released two successful albums, Dru Hill and Enter the Dru, before separating for a period from late 1999 to 2002, during which time Sisqó and Woody released solo albums. While Woody's Soul Music LP was a moderate success in the gospel music industry, Sisqó's debut album, Unleash the Dragon, and its hit singles, "Thong Song" and "Incomplete", were major pop successes, and established Sisqó as a household name outside Dru Hill. Sisqó's second album, Return of Dragon, did not sell as well.
In 2002, by then part of the Def Soul record label, the group reunited and added fifth member Rufus "Scola" Waller to the lineup for their third album, Dru World Order, whose underperformance led to the group being dropped from Def Soul. In 2009, the group signed to Kedar Entertainment Group and released their fourth album, InDRUpendence Day, the following year, with new member Tao taking the place of the again departed Woody.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
A few more days we'll be home glory
Ready they'll be getting out the flags
With men fists high motive delatory
Still I only see a lot of snares
Oh yes I did
Brought beauty back to Egypt by the ton
Of this and ever month now I'm the flavor
Oh yea yea
And scheduled to things I've never done
And way should I tell you this
A stranger I just met
Oh my my
A few more days and we'll be home in glory
Already they'll be getting out the flags
With Memphis high dormitory
For me, I only see a lot of snags
The prospect above all I find distressful
Is having to give up the soldier's life
If anything I'm rather too successful
They made me hand my sword in for a wife
For just because I've triumphed as a slaver
Brought booty back to Egypt by the ton
Of this and every month, I'm now the flavor
And scheduled to do things I've never done
And why should I tell you this, a stranger I just met
A woman who in hours from now I'll certainly forget
Anonymous and undemanding
Enchantment passing through
My secrets and my confidence are safe enough with you
My days out on the field are all but ended
They'll put me out to grass which means the throne
Bedecked and bejeweled alongside my intended
I feel as though my heart is set in stone
But maybe I am being far too gloomy
Yes, maybe I'll make waves in pastures new
Find goverment and politics come to me
As naturally as I now talk to you
For just because I've triumphed as a slaver
Brought booty back to Egypt by the ton
Of this and every month, I'm now the flavor
And scheduled to do things I've never done
And why should I tell you this, a stranger I just met
A woman who in hours from now I'll certainly forget
Anonymous and undemanding
Enchantment passing through
My secret lack of confidence is safe enough with you
Why should I tell you this, a stranger I just met
A woman who in hours from now I'll certainly forget
Anonymous and undemanding
Enchantment passing through
My secret lack of confidence is safe enough with you
The lyrics to Dru Hill's song "Enchantment Passing Through" describe the inner conflict of a successful soldier who is about to retire and transition into a new life as a politician or ruler. Despite his accomplishments as a slaver, he is not satisfied with the idea of settling down with a wife and relinquishing his previous life. He confides in a stranger (the "enchantment passing through") about his fears and reservations. He believes that this anonymous encounter may be the only opportunity to express his thoughts, as he won't be scrutinized or judged by someone he doesn't know well.
The singer is conflicted about trading his active life as a soldier for the comfort and stability of a new role as a ruler. He recognizes that his past achievements have made him a desirable candidate, but he is apprehensive about the challenges that may come with this transition. He fears that his secrets will be exposed and that he will be judged for his past mistakes, which include his profession as a slave trader. Thus, he is hesitant to share his doubts with those around him, but he finally opens up to the stranger who he meets in passing. The singer is vulnerable and appreciates that the stranger is anonymous, so he can speak without fear of repercussion.
The song highlights the internal conflict of someone who has achieved a lot but realizes that he may long for something different. He feels pressure to move on to a new role, but he is concerned about his lack of experience and how he will adapt. The song emphasizes anonymity and the idea of finding solace in strangers. Overall, the lyrics suggest that even the most successful individuals face doubts and fears, but sometimes it takes a stranger to help them gain a new perspective on their situation.
