Recorded in a converted barn on the North Sea Coast and showcasing a darker, more organic sound, Jon Foulger suggested the album is about "nature fighting back". Then says it's unbelievable
Why we have to work so hard
And I can't take it anymore
She says that just because it's difficult
It does not mean that we have no choice
Oh no
And we say yes to anyone
Potential futures make a life
Put your hand up and shield your eyes
Potential futures it's all possible
No one's alone there in the future
Potential futures make a life
Put your hand up and shield your eyes
Potential futures it's all possible
No one's alone there in the future
Feeling the strain but not breaking down
Your mother had enough of this old town
Jimmy I must leave this place
Cause I can't take it anymore
Potential futures make a life
Put your hand up and shield your eyes
Potential futures it's all possible
No one's alone there in the future
Potential futures make a life
Put your hand up and shield your eyes
Potential futures it's all possible
No one's alone there in the future
Maybe it's all in your mind
Perhaps that we all died, say, years ago
Now what do you have left
Future dreams of passion plays and dancing people
All, so, lonely
Potential futures make a life
Put your hand up and shield your eyes
Potential futures it's all possible
No one's alone there in the future
Potential futures make a life
Put your hand up and shield your eyes
Potential futures it's all possible
No one's alone there in the future

The lyrics of the song "Potential Futures" by Duels convey a message of hope and optimism. The song talks about the struggle of everyday life and how it can wear us down. The opening line refers to Jimmy DaLancia breaking his back, which could be a metaphorical way of saying that he's exhausted from working too hard. He then questions why we have to work so hard and says he can't take it anymore. But then a woman counters his pessimism and tells him that just because things are tough doesn't mean there's no hope. She says that anything is possible if we believe in ourselves.
The song then talks about how we should look to the future with optimism and see all the potential that exists there. It encourages us to put our hands up and shield our eyes as we look toward the future. This is a metaphor for blocking out the negative thoughts that try to bring us down and focusing on the endless possibilities that are available to us. The song ends with a suggestion that what we perceive as reality might not be the truth, and we should never give up on our dreams.
Overall, "Potential Futures" is a song about the power of positive thinking and the importance of looking to the future with hope and optimism.
