In The Mood
Duke Ellington Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In a sentimental mood
I can see the stars come through my room
While your loving attitude
Is like a flame that lights the gloom
On the wings of every kiss
Drift a melody so strange and sweet
In this sentimental bliss
You make my paradise complete
Rose pedals seem to fall
It's all like a dream to call you mine

My heart's lighter thing
Since you made me this night a thing divine
In a sentimental mood
I'm within a world so heavenly
For I never dreamt that you'd
Be loving sentimental me

In a sentimental mood
I'm within a world so heavenly

For I never dreamt that you'd
Be loving sentimental me

Love big band jazz

I love this song. It's so groovy, and plus it's from the 1950s,

@Ambaryerno

Heh the song is a bit older than that. First recorded in 1939.

For any big band to have even touched "In The Mood" is remarkable. Leave it to Duke's band! So much more hip that Miller's chart (though I do like many of the things in Miller's book, for example the intro to "Serenade In Blue" by Billy May - masterful!). I also think the main of "In The Mood" melody actually started out as a tune by Duke, no? "Happy Go Lucky Local"...?
