1) The German rave band Dune. The band was founded in 1995 by Oliver Froning and Jens Oettrich, who are both big fans of the novels by Frank Herbert - hence the name Dune. Their first single "Hardcore Vibes" featured the voice of Oliver's then 11-year-old cousin Janine. Their second single "Are you ready to fly?" sounded quite different and already featured the typical Dune-style with high-pitched vocals and a catchy melody.
At the end of 1996 the band released the album "Forever" with a lot of tracks in a classical style - all tracks where performed together with the London Session Orchestra (see Dune & the London Session Orchestra). Lead singer Verena von Strenge left Dune after the release of "Forever" to start a solo career. Dune came back in April 1998 with a new lead singer (Vanessa Hörster). The single "Keep the Secret" was only a medium success and its successor "Electric Heaven" flopped completely.
In late 1999 Verena von Strenge came back as lead singer after her solo career was not as successful as she wanted it to be. The single "Dark Side of the Moon" was released and the album "Reunion" was produced and ready for release in May 2000. However the album was never released due to a court order that stopped the single "Heaven".
The latest single released was "Rainbow To The Stars 2003", a rework of their 1996 classic. It was released on 23 June 2003.

Dune Lyrics

Nothing at all, just a distant hum
There was a being and he lived on his own
He had no one to talk to, and nothing to do
He drew up the plans, learnt to work with his hands
A million years passed by and his work was done
And his words were these
Hope you find it in everything, everything that you see
Hope you find it in everything, everything that you see
Hope you find it, hope you find it
Hope you find me in you
So she had built her elaborate home
With its ups and its downs, its rain and its sun
She decided that her work, it was done, time to have fun,
And found a game to play
Then this part of the game
She completely forgot where she'd hidden herself
And she spent the rest of her time
Trying to find her parts.
[Chorus:Repeat x2]
Hope you find it in everything, everything that you see
Hope you find it in everything, everything that you see
Hope you find it, hope you find it
Hope you find me in you.
There was a time when there was nothing at all
Nothing at all, just a distant hum.
The lyrics to Dune’s “Hide and Seek” convey a timeless message of self-discovery, creativity, and play. The song opens with an image of a being who existed in a world without anything, just a distant hum. This being decided to use their creativity and skill to build and create things, spending a million years working with their hands to complete their projects. They offered their words of wisdom to others, hoping that they could find meaning and purpose in everything around them. The chorus reflects this sentiment, asking the listener to search for that same purpose in everything they see, and to hope that they will find a connection between themselves and the world.
The second verse brings in a new character, a woman who has built herself an elaborate home and decided it’s time to have some fun. She plays a game of hiding and seeking with herself, but ultimately forgets where she has hidden herself. In a humorous and relatable way, the song reveals the importance of play and exploration in finding oneself. The final chorus mirrors the first two, emphasizing the message of self-discovery and connection, urging the listener to find the singer within themselves.
Overall, “Hide and Seek” conveys a positive and uplifting message of creativity, play, and self-discovery, encouraging the listener to find meaning and purpose in everything they encounter.

There was a time when this song was hidden from me. But as we had played the Hide and Seek game I have, once again, found myself in it.
