Dustin also has a solo acoustic side project under his own name. He had toured in past years on his own under the moniker "Ursus Veritas," but decided to drop the name in favor of simplicity since "people have enough trouble just pronouncing [his] last name to begin with." The name was a play-on-words of its Latin components: Ursus meaning bear, and Veritas meaning truth. Kensrue has been quoted as saying there is no real special significance to the name, other than he likes bears, and thought it sounded cool.
On January 23, 2007, Kensrue released a solo album titled "Please Come Home" under his name, Dustin Kensrue and on the label Equal Vision Records. It includes the tracks "I Knew You Before," "Pistol," "I Believe," "Please Come Home," "Blood & Wine," "Consider The Ravens," "Weary Saints," and "Blanket Of Ghosts." He wrapped up the recording and mixing of the album at the home of fellow Thrice member Teppei Teranishi. The album opened at 142 on the Billboard 200 with 5,800 copies sold. He supported the album with a solo tour including stops on David Letterman's talk show and The Fuse Network.

Weary Saints

With pale and ghostly flames
Some still dream of light
So the sun will rise again
We'll cure our need for wrongs
In cool and measured crime
We'll learn to drift in palm
Let us not be faithless
You will meet our needs
A good and gracious wordless
Will lamp unto our feet
For years we've closed our eyes
While rust on reason grows
Feed and clothe our lies
In our hearts we know, yeah, we know
Wisdom lends us all
Cool and steady hand
Steel pressed to my palm
Doesn't make me more a man
So courage for the givers
Do what must be done
To deal out truth and justice
With swift and sober guns
For years you met our thirst
Still deserts we have roamed
We'll be done with dust and dirt
When the ocean calls us home
And fall into the arms
Of a cool and sweet embrace
And under stars and waving palms
Shed our sin like snakes
But time will cease to stalk us
Death will be undone
We'll shine with the light of
A thousand blazing suns
Time will cease to stalk us
Death will be undone
We'll shine with the light of
A thousand blazing suns
The song ‘Weary Saints’ by Dustin Kensrue is an introspective and reflective song about the human struggle for hope, faith, and redemption. The lyrics beautifully reflect on the years of struggle against darkness with the burning flames of hope, where the search for the light keeps going on still. The opening lines, “For years we fought the night with pale and ghostly flames,” is an image of fighting against the darkness using the feeble and ghostly light, hinting at a hopeless struggle. The next verse of the song reflects the constant battle between good and evil within us.
As the song progresses, we see the search for faith and hope, the need to learn from our mistakes, and to find redemption. The lines, “Let us not be faithless, You will meet our needs, A good and gracious wordless will lamp unto our feet” reflect unending hope and trust in a higher power. The song finally reaches its climax with the lines, “But time will cease to stalk us, Death will be undone, We'll shine with the light of a thousand blazing suns” which bring a sense of calm, peace, and hope that even in the face of death, redemption is possible.
Overall, the song ‘Weary Saints’ by Dustin Kensrue is a message of hope and faith that encourages listeners to keep moving forward, to learn from their mistakes and to constantly search for goodness and redemption.
