Although Dwele has had somewhat of a short career as a commercially avaliable artist, he has a vast catalogue of material currently unreleased that die-hard fans revere as some of his best work, considerably superior to his material released as a signed artist that showcases the true depth of his artistic and diverse talent, displayed without constraint.
Gardner was raised on the west side of Detroit in a musical family. He played piano from the age of six, later taking up trumpet, bass and guitar. He was deeply affected by the fatal shooting of his father outside his home when he was age ten, later stating "I learned to put my emotions into music; it was my therapy."
He cites Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Roy Ayers, Miles Davis, and Freddie Hubbard as favorite artists, and took inspiration from hip hop group A Tribe Called Quest, becoming an MC, and working with Slum Village. Gardner recorded a demo in his bedroom, called, The Rize, and sold it out of the trunk of his car. He had about 100 copies, which sold out within a week. He caught the ears of local heroes Slum Village and more specifically their world-renowned producer J Dilla. Slum Village invited Dwele to sing the hook of the song "Tainted" for their album Trinity (Past, Present and Future). It became an instant classic and led to more high profile work with female rapper Bahamadia, the all-star group Lucy Pearl and London's New Sector Movement. Dwele signed to Virgin Records in 2003, who released his debut album, Subject, which mixed neo soul and hip hop. In a 2005 review in The Independent, his style was summed up: "Dwele's rooted in vintage soul but isn't stuck in the past, overly reverential or an exercise in pastiche - there's a major hip-hop edge which betrays his original incarnation as a rapper." A second album, Some Kinda..., followed in 2005. He then later signed with RT Music Group and KOCH records in March, 2008. He is coming out with his fourth album titled, W.W.W. (W.ants. W.orld. W.omen) coming out June 29, 2010. Dwele was recently featured on the first single off of Kanye West's fifth studio album, Good Ass Job. The song was entitled "Power" and was leaked on May 28, 2010.

Ah
Is you F****d Up?
Huh? what?
I'm a little F****d up too
You say that you can't tell
I probably ate a little more than you
People, whose to blame?
We are playin' our part
We all should have voted on our escort from the start
Hey
Chorus
Hangover
Just get me to the mornin'
Hangover
Just get me to the mornin'
Hangover
If I can just make it to the mornin'
Hangover
Just make it to the mornin'
Hangover
Just get me to the mornin'
Hangover
Just get me to the mornin'
Hangover
Just make it to the mornin'
Hangover
Verse 2
We are stumbling
The club closing
The sofa like that and we fallin' in it
Has anyone seen the escort?
The one that's providing the dress port
Never mind
I see our friend
Trying to fight a guy with a drink in his hand
He grabs some of us to go find this honey
Trying to get some of his heir of money, money, money
We in too deep
He's kicked out and I'm losing sleep
Drinks high price the whole place is mad
We all broke and can't pay our tab
Damn
Young lady, whose to blame?
We all playin' her part
We all should have voted from the start
Yea Yeah
Chorus
Hangover
Just get me to the mornin'
Hangover
Just get me to the mornin'
Hangover
If I can just make it to the mornin'
Hangover
Just make it to the mornin'
Hangover
Just get me to the mornin'
Hangover
Just get me to the mornin'
Hangover
Just make it to the mornin'
Hangover
Verse 3
We are desperately tryin'
Ah
To hold each other up
And stay on our toes
Can't wait till we get home
The place that we used to, The place that we know
No money for a cab
We gotta walk it
Its gonna take some time
Across the street they laugh
They also wasted
The whole damn place is
Hard over
And for the mornin'
Some a y'all won't get up
Some of y'all might lose your jobs
From battling hangover
Some of y'all lost your cars
And some of y'all cant go home
People, whose to blame?
We are playin' the part
But next time we vote on whose in charge
Its the
Chorus
Hangover
Just get me to the mornin'
Hangover
Just get me to the mornin'

If I can just make it to the mornin'

Just make it to the mornin'
Hangover
Just get me to the mornin'
Hangover
Just get me to the mornin'
Hangover
Just make it to the mornin'
Hangover
It's the hangover.
In Dwele's song "Hangover" the first verse starts with the question of whether the listener is also intoxicated. The tone is jokey and light-hearted, as if acknowledging that it's the morning after a fun night out, and everyone's a little worse for wear. The verse continues with the suggestion that the singer may have overeaten, and implies that there may be some regret about this.
The second verse moves on to describe the chaos of the night before, with the club closing and the search for the escort who was supposed to provide the dress port, all amidst a blur of drinks and losing track of people. It's clear that the events of the evening have escalated beyond what was originally planned or expected, and it seems that some of the group are even getting into fights. The situation is further complicated by the realization that the tab can't be paid, and the group is broke. The third verse is a more reflective moment, with a sense of regret about the events of the night before. The group is depicted as struggling to hold themselves up and stay on their feet, and they have a long walk home with no money for a cab. There is a sense of the consequences of the previous night being significant, with some losing their jobs or their cars. The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the theme of the hangover, with the singer yearning for the morning when they can start to feel better.
Overall, "Hangover" portrays a familiar scenario that many people can relate to - the morning after a night out that got a little out of hand. The lyrics convey a sense of recklessness and lack of responsibility, while also acknowledging the fun and community that can be found in a night out drinking. Dwele's choice of words and delivery style adds to the lightheartedness of the song, while also hinting at some deeper concerns about the risks of drinking and its impact on relationships and livelihoods.
