I dont know why I was led to watch this. I have seen many documentaries on D-Day. But this one is absolutely the most accurate and best narrative I have ever seen. Im 74 now. But when I ran across it and started to watch it. I couldn't stop. Even as I make this comment,
my eyes fill with tears 😢.
My dad was in the US Army 29th division that landed on Omaha Beach that day, and I SAW HIM. At 1:01:54, he is the soldier sitting next to the cliff with others looking directly at the camera. My God!! He was probably 20-21. I know it is him because I have a couple of pictures of him just before joining the service. And one pic of him after they made it into Normady.
He was one of the few lucky ones that made the landing, and God had a plan for. (ME!)
My dad never talked very much about that day or the war. All he would say to me is, "Son, no man should ever have to endure and see what we had to face and saw. It was pure hell!" I know he had a Silver Star and several ribbons my sister has, and he was a Sargent Major when he was discharged. I have his strips.
So I never pushed him to talk about it. I lost my dad in 1979 from a massive heart attack.
I had the opportunity 5 years ago to go to Normady and visit Omaha Beach and the Normady Memorial American Cemetery. That day was a beautiful, quiet day, and I stood in the cemetery, I just lost it! Not only because God kept my dad safe but all the men who sacrificed their lives on that bloody day. Maybe it was just me, but it was one of the most chilling and saddest days of my life! Now I know why I was led to watch this documentary. I'm going to call my sister and tell her to watch it!
Dad, I'll always love you for your service and giving us life ❤😢❤.

Quel documentaire extraordinaire. La voix off, les images et la musique nous donnes des frissons. Honneur à ces hommes et femmes qui ont combattus pour que nous puissions vivre en paix

@williammaxwell1919

Sadly, "Peace" was never the objective of the D-Day landings

@riverlady982

@@williammaxwell1919They were stopping a war, freeing countries, and preventing more human atrocities; that is bringing peace when it comes to humans. So if that's not the main thing it was about please since you're so intelligent inform us what was it really about, this ought to be interesting 🤔?

@riverlady982

@@williammaxwell1919America could have just continued to stay out of the war and sell resources and war materials to make money while strengthening it's own defenses and sustaining it's independent industries leaving Americans needing nothing from World Trade, then what? Canada could have sat back the same way actually. It makes the people who wrote this sound either bitter and resentful of the help or like they're just trying to propagate resentment towards America and/or are just ignorant. The fact is that America mostly stayed out of it until Japan decided it was going to Declare War on America by bombing Pearl Harbor and then Germany decided to join them in that misguided notion.
