The band has released four albums since their formation: "Peace, Love, Death Metal" (2004), "Death by Sexy" (2006), "Heart On" (2008) and "Zipper Down" (2015). Despite their band name, Eagles of Death Metal is not a death metal band. Hughes stated that a friend was introducing Josh Homme to the death metal genre. When he played a song by the Polish band Vader and made a claim that the song was within the death metal genre, Homme then referred to Vader as "The Eagles of Death Metal". After hearing this phrase, he wondered what a cross between the Eagles and a death metal band would sound like. In a 2003 interview Homme described the sound of the band as a combination of "bluegrass slide guitar mixed with stripper drum beats and Canned Heat vocals." Jesse Hughes is known by fans for his enthusiastic interaction with audiences at live performances.
While the band were on stage at Le Bataclan in Paris, France, on November 13, 2015, the audience was attacked by terrorists wielding automatic rifles, grenades and suicide vests. The death toll inside the venue was 89, including the group's merchandise manager, but the band members made it safely out of the venue via a door backstage.

I got the feeling something ain't right
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair
And I'm wondering if I'll get down the stairs
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right
Here I am, stuck in the metal with you
Stuck in the metal with you
And I'm wondering what is I should do
It's so hard to wipe this smile from my face
Lose control and I'm all over the place
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right
Here I am, stuck in the metal with you
Well, you started out with nothing
And you're proud you're a self-made man
And your friends they all come crawling
Slap you on the back and say, "Please, please"
Well, I don't know why I came here tonight
I got the feeling something ain't right
I'm so scared in case I fall off my chair
And I'm wondering if I'll get down the stairs
Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right
Here I am, stuck in the metal with you
Yes, I'm stuck in the metal with you
Here I am, here I am
Stuck in the metal with you
The Eagles of Death Metal's song "Stuck In the Metal" is an energetic track with an upbeat tempo that describes the feeling of being out of place and uncomfortable in a situation. The lyrics describe the singer's unease and apprehension in a situation they find themselves in. They are stuck in a situation with clowns to their left and jokers to their right, uncertain of how to navigate the situation. The line "clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right" is a reference to the Stealer's Wheel song "Stuck In The Middle With You," which has a similar theme.
The lyrics suggest a feeling of powerlessness, as the singer is stuck in a situation they do not understand or know how to handle. The song speaks to the broader human experience of feeling out of place and uncomfortable. The music creates a sense of tension and anxiety that captures the feelings expressed by the lyrics.
