Ondine
Echobelly Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Any time at all
You say you're not afraid to die
But you're not sleeping
You are bringing me down so slow
Bringing me down so slow
Bringing me down
You burn so cold
Lost your voice when it needed you
Black veins tied you prisoner
To coax your severed highs
But this is the plastic age
The quiet rage is damned and civilized
You are bringing me down so slow
(give a little out and you're bound to take a fall)
Bringing me down so slow
(give a little out and you're bound to take a fall)
Bringing me down so
Tell who made it hurt
Won't you say who made it hurt
Won't you tell me now who made it hurt again
You ache for something
You ache for something
The lyrics to Echobelly's song "Ondine" reflect upon the struggles of addiction and the human desire for something more. In the first verse, the singer is confronted by someone who claims to be unafraid of death and able to walk away at any time. However, they are also unable to sleep, suggesting a deeper internal struggle. The second verse describes the effects of addiction, the loss of one's voice and the feeling of being trapped. The singer acknowledges the "plastic age" and the tension between the "damned and civilized." The chorus highlights the slow descent, the idea that giving yourself up can lead to downfall. The final lines of the song show the singer seeking answers, a desire for some sort of relief.
The lyrics to "Ondine" can be interpreted as a commentary on society's pressures and the individual's search for identity and meaning. The song suggests a feeling of being trapped and unfulfilled, leading to self-destruction. The singer is searching for answers and a way out of their current situation, but the slow descent is inescapable.
