I Need You Now
Eddie Fisher Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If I ever needed you, I need you now
I can't remember when I've ever been so blue
If I ever needed love, I need it now
I feel so all alone I don't know what to do

No day or night goes by when I don't have my cry
I feel like I could die from wanting you
I can't ease my aching heart, but you'd know how
If I ever needed you I need you now

If I ever needed love, I need it now
I feel so all alone I don't know what to do

No day or night goes by when I don't have my cry
I feel like I could die from wanting you

I can't ease my aching heart, but you'd know how
If I ever needed you I need you now

Stephen Shields

no one has a voice likes Eddie.

Wayne Brasler

Written for and recorded first by Joni James, exactly one week before Eddie did his version. M-G-M Records already had six Joni James singles on various charts in various places and just could not put another one on the market quickly, so the Fisher came out on RCA and Joni's original was shelved, finally appearing three years later on the re-release of the album "Let There Be Love." Hearing it, Eddie told Joni, "That song belongs to you; it's your hit, not mine."

He had a very pure straight up strong voice. A belter. No microphone necessary. But very plain in terms of interpreting a song's melody and meaning.
