In the late 1980s Brickell was the lead singer with the (now renamed) folk-rock group Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, whose 1988 debut album Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars was a critical and commercial success. The band's follow-up album, Ghost of a Dog (1990), fared less well. As a solo artist, Brickell released Picture Perfect Morning (1994) and Volcano (2003). In 2006 she reunited with some of the original members of the New Bohemians and they released the Stranger Things album.
Brickell had a role as a folk singer in the 1989 film Born on the Fourth of July. Her version of Bob Dylan's "A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall" is featured on the film's soundtrack. Many computer users know her from the "Good Times" video which was included as part of the multimedia samples on the Windows 95 installation CD-ROM.
Brickell married songwriter Paul Simon in 1992. They have three children.
Take A Walk
Edie Brickell Lyrics

Before you go crazy.
Come out for a while with me.
No don't be lazy?
Tall trees whose shadows fall along sheeps meadow.
Never know what we will see. Come take a walk with me.
Well I know you're weary now, and uninspired.
But if you stop going out. You'll just grow tired.
Never know what we will see. Come take a walk with me.
Don't wanna leave you but I cant stay, anymore.
When its a beautiful bright day outside the door.
Tall trees whose shadows fall along sheeps meadow.
Never know what we will see. Come take a walk with me
The lyrics to Edie Brickell's song Take a Walk are about encouraging someone to step outside and take a walk with the singer. The song begins with the singer asking the listener to turn off their television and come outside for a while. The singer then references the tall trees whose shadows fall along sheep's meadow and invites the listener to take a walk with her, saying they never know what they will see.
The second verse acknowledges that the listener may be tired and uninspired but encourages them to keep going out because if they stop going out, they will just grow tired. The final verse says that the singer doesn't want to leave the listener but needs to go because it is a beautiful bright day outside. Once again, the singer invites the listener to take a walk with her among the tall trees and in the sheep's meadow.
This song can be interpreted as a call to reconnect with nature and the world outside of our screens. The line "Let me turn off your TV" is particularly telling, as it suggests that turning off our screens can help us focus on what is right in front of us. The invitation to take a walk with the singer is an invitation to step out of our comfort zones and be open to the unexpected. The song encourages us to stay curious about the world around us and to keep exploring our surroundings, even when we're feeling uninspired.
