The band were originally known as (The) Pride, before they changed their line-up and became known as Snowfield, becoming a popular unsigned band. They remained with this name until they signed with Kitchenware Records in September 2004. The band's debut single Bullets was released as a limited edition of 500 on Kitchenware Records on January 24, 2005; it quickly gained support from radio stations such as Xfm and BBC 6 Music - where it was the single of the week.
Their debut album, The Back Room, was released on 25 July 2005, to critical acclaim. The band toured out most of 2005, including two jaunts with We Are Scientists. However, after a pivotal support slot on Franz Ferdinand's Arena tour at the end of 2005, it was the re-release of single Munich in January 2006 that propelled them into the top 10 of the UK single's chart. The following May, Editors played three sell-out shows at London's Brixton Academy, and countless gigs worldwide. The album has now sold over 500,000 units.
In June 2007 Editors released a second album, An End has a Start which included the single Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors. This first track was released on June 18th 2007 in the UK, and June 26th in the US, however it was leaked onto the Internet earlier. The album's title track, An End Has A Start was released on September 3rd, The Racing Rats on November 26th, 2007. Following a landmark appearence on The Other Stage at the Glastonbury festival, the album entered at number 1 in the UK album chart.
'In this Light And On This Evening', the third studio album, was released on October 12th 2009. With the heavy synthesizer sound and industrial ring, the album differed immensely from the earlier work of the band. Tom explained this change as a way for the band to try something completely different. Papillon, the first single, was followed by You Don't Know Love. The third single was Eat Raw Meat = Blood Drool. The album was inspired by the city of London, both lyrically as musically and debuted at number 1 in the UK album charts.
On April 16th 2012, during the recording of their fourth studio album with producer Flood, Editors announced that Chris Urbanowicz (guitar) was leaving the band basing the decision entirely upon the band's future musical direction.
‘The Weight Of Your Love’, their fourth studio LP, was released on July 2013. It was preceded by the single 'A ton of love, released in May. This is also the first album to feature new band members Justin Lockey and Elliott Williams. It was recorded at Blackbird Studio in Nashville with producer Jacquire King and mixed by Craig Silvey.

The room's full to burst
Whatever you say
Gotta quench that thirst
I got a little secret for you
It's in a magazine
You got an image to keep safe
Now talk the loudest with a clenched fist
Top of a hit list, gag a witness
It takes a fat lip to run a tight ship
Just talk the loudest with a clenched fist
Flash your winning smile
Let your eyes work the room
These people are here for you
You're the bride, you're the groom
I got a little secret for you
It's in a magazine
You got an image to keep safe
Bitten nails stay clean, yeah
Now talk the loudest with a clenched fist
Top of a hit list, blindfold the witness
It takes a fat lip to run a tight ship
Just talk the loudest with a clenched fist
Yeah, you talk the loudest
Now talk the loudest with a clenched fist
Top of a hit list, gag a witness
It takes a fat lip to run a tight ship
Now talk the loudest, you're making them sing, you're making them sing
It don't mean a thing, it don't mean a thing
You're making them sing, you're making them sing
It don't mean a thing, it don't mean a thing
You're making them sing, you're making them sing
It don't mean a thing, it don't mean a, don't mean a, don't mean a thing
It don't mean a thing
The song “Magazine” by Editors is a commentary on celebrity culture and the manufactured nature of fame. The lyrics describe the pressure to maintain a perfect image in order to keep up appearances and stay relevant. The first verse sets the scene of a crowded room where people are looking for attention and trying to “quench that thirst.” The chorus reveals the “little secret” of the celebrity world: the image they present is carefully crafted and maintained, often at the cost of their true selves. The line “bitten nails stay clean” is a perfect example of this – it suggests that even though the subject is a nervous wreck on the inside, they must maintain the facade of cool and collected.
The second verse continues the theme of putting on a show for others, with lines like “flash your winning smile” and “let your eyes work the room.” The repetition of the phrase “talk the loudest with a clenched fist” suggests that those who can project the most confidence and aggression are the ones who will succeed. The bridge “it don't mean a thing, it don't mean a, don't mean a, don't mean a thing” could be interpreted as a message to the listener – that despite all the posturing and image-crafting, in the end it doesn't really matter.
Overall, “Magazine” is a sharp critique of the culture of celebrity and the pressure to conform to certain ideals in order to gain fame and success.

Still can't believe how Editors are so unpopular in Youtube... I love Tom's voice and stage presence!
Street Bloke
Unpopular? Their videos have millions of views.
MissieK
@Street Bloke not that many if you see other bands with similar music.
Samantha Williamson
They are hugely popular in mainland Europe. Who needs commercial success? Ok they could do with being financially compensted for being the best kept secret in the music industry. In the UK anyway. I love his dancing and he's hot. Edith Bowman iis is a lucky woman.

that's absolutely fascinating how this video looks EXACTLY like i imagined this song to look like. Can express it with words, because i'm not really familiar with the office culture and can't explain its special aura, but these vibes just can't leave my head every time i hear this song. STUNNING. I'M IN LOVE.

as a male dude, 26 meanwhile, i just can say: I LOVE Tom Smith for his physically expressions while singing. If u ask me, i'd say he dont plays a role for the band or is impaired by whatever, he just shows what h feels while singing and also have fun on stage. Watch them live!
