After signing a contract with the Atlantic Records label Lava Records in 1994, his first major-label album, Honor Among Thieves, was issued in 1995. His second album, Misguided Roses, spawned I'll Be, a major single in 1998. Two more albums (Messenger and Far from Over) followed, but at the end of 2001, he split from Lava. In 2003 he released a collection of acoustic versions of songs both old and new called The Austin Sessions via ATC Records, a Nashville-based independent record label (at which McCain was the first artist signed following its creation in 2001). Mid-2004 saw the arrival of his first studio album in three years, entitled Scream & Whisper, which was released on another indie label, DRT Entertainment.
He has released two DVDs to date. The first was through ATC records in late 2002, called Mile Marker: Songs and Stories from the Acoustic Highway, and it consisted of interviews, live performances, and other material. The other was in late 2004, Tinsel & Tap Shoes. It was his first live concert DVD, recorded at The House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
A new CD was released in April, 2006 titled, Lost in America. Edwin recently signed a contract with Vanguard Records. This album (#8) is said to be a true "rock 'n roll" collection.

We're gonna stay here till we soothe our soul
If it take all night long
Come on, let the good times roll
We're gonna stay here till we soothe our soul
If it take all night long
The evening sun is sinking low
I got my plans, don't know about you
I tell you exactly what I'm gonna do
Come on, let the good times roll
We're gonna stay here till we soothe our soul
If it take all night long
So come on, let the good times roll
We're gonna stay here till we soothe our soul
If it take all night long
It might be twelve o'clock, it might be three
Time don't mean that much to me
Ain't felt this way since I don't know when
I might not feel this way again, oh
Come on, let the good times roll
We're gonna stay here till we soothe our soul
If it take all night long
So come on, let the good times roll
We're gonna stay here till we soothe our soul
If it take all night long
All night, all night
All night, all night
It's gonna take all night, all night
Come on, let the good times roll
We're gonna stay here till we soothe our soul
If it take all night long
So come on, let the good times roll
We're gonna stay here till we soothe our soul
If it take all night long
Come on, let the good times roll
We're gonna stay here till we soothe our soul
If it take all night long
Come on, let the good times roll
"Good Times" is a song by Edwin McCain about the joys of letting loose and enjoying life. The lyrics convey the idea of living in the moment, forgetting about the clock and the pressures of everyday life, and just having a good time. The first verse sets the tone for the rest of the song, inviting listeners to "let the good times roll" and promising to "stay here till we soothe our soul." The second verse talks about the passing of time and the singer's desire to make the most of the night. The final verses reinforce the idea of living in the present, disregarding time, and prioritizing happiness.
The song is about living life to the fullest and enjoying the moment. This theme is celebrated in many of Edwin McCain’s other works, which often focus on finding happiness and fulfillment in the present. According to McCain, the song was inspired by his experiences touring and performing in bars and clubs throughout the country. He wanted to capture the feeling of being in a room full of strangers, all united by the power of music and the desire to have a good time.
