After signing a contract with the Atlantic Records label Lava Records in 1994, his first major-label album, Honor Among Thieves, was issued in 1995. His second album, Misguided Roses, spawned I'll Be, a major single in 1998. Two more albums (Messenger and Far from Over) followed, but at the end of 2001, he split from Lava. In 2003 he released a collection of acoustic versions of songs both old and new called The Austin Sessions via ATC Records, a Nashville-based independent record label (at which McCain was the first artist signed following its creation in 2001). Mid-2004 saw the arrival of his first studio album in three years, entitled Scream & Whisper, which was released on another indie label, DRT Entertainment.
He has released two DVDs to date. The first was through ATC records in late 2002, called Mile Marker: Songs and Stories from the Acoustic Highway, and it consisted of interviews, live performances, and other material. The other was in late 2004, Tinsel & Tap Shoes. It was his first live concert DVD, recorded at The House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
A new CD was released in April, 2006 titled, Lost in America. Edwin recently signed a contract with Vanguard Records. This album (#8) is said to be a true "rock 'n roll" collection.

Losing Tonight
Edwin McCain Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
What my eyes are seeing
When the big wheel stops turning
There's nothing left to believe in
Release me
From this moment
Because I can't hold on anymore
Into darkness
Will you be there to break my fall
Its too late to worry
I'll wait until morning
Comes around again
Because it feels like
I'm losing tonight
I'm fighting the reasons
Changing all I believe in
I'm reaching out slowly
To the distant ship she'll be
As the colors fade
To a different shade
In this town
The waters never flow
Release me
From this moment
I need to let go
Its too late to worry
I'll wait until morning
Comes around again
Because it feels like
I'm losing tonight
As the colors fade
To a different shade
In this town
The waters never flow
Release me
From this moment
I need to let go
Its too late to worry
I'll wait until morning
Comes around again
Because it feels like ohh
I'm losing tonight
yeah I'm losing tonight
Well I'm losing tonight
Losing tonight
The lyrics of Edwin McCain's song "Losing Tonight" capture a sense of despair and the need for release from a difficult moment. The opening lines express disbelief at what the singer is seeing, suggesting that something unexpected has happened. When the "big wheel stops turning," there is nothing left to believe in, and the singer longs for release from the moment. The repetition of the phrase "Release me from this moment" emphasizes the desire to move on and escape a difficult situation.
As the song progresses, the singer acknowledges the futility of worrying about the situation and resolves to wait for morning to come again. The sense of losing is palpable throughout the song, from the title to the repeated refrain of "it feels like I'm losing tonight." The singer is fighting against the reasons for their sense of loss, but acknowledges the need to let go and release themselves from the moment.
The imagery of the song, with its references to colors fading and waters that never flow, adds to the sense of melancholy and uncertainty being expressed. Overall, "Losing Tonight" is a powerful expression of the pain of loss and the need to release oneself from difficult situations and emotions.
