Born in Kingston, Jamaica as Ripton Hylton, Eek-a-Mouse began his foray into reggae music when he was in college, but did not begin to garner a substantial audience until 1979 with his hit "Once a Virgin". This same year, he changed his singing name to "Eek-a-Mouse", the name of the racehorse he always bet on. In 1981, he cheered up the Reggae Sunsplash Festival, which was still mourning over the death of reggae icon Bob Marley. After this, his fame continued increasing through the year 1982 until 1988, when he released "Eek-A-Nomics", his last full-length CD until 1996.
Eek-a-Mouse is a regular at the Jamaican music festival Reggae Sunsplash and often teams up with reggae duo Michigan and Smiley. He has also been featured on Christian rock group P.O.D.'s (Payable on Death) album Satellite, lending his vocals to the rock-reggae track "Ridiculous".

The wise man builds his house on the rock
The foolish man builds his house on the sand
And when the rain came tumbling down
The foolish man house it washed away
How could the wise man build
How can the wise man build his
House where there is no foundation
On the sand woadi woi on the sand
Noah built his ark by the will of God
But see the wicked people ignores him
So he take all, all with himself
A pair, a pair of animal woi woi
Bird and cows and goat and horse wowoy
Lions and tigers oh and zebra
How could the wise man build
His house on the sand
How can the foolish man build
His house en the rock
He ain't got no wisdom, woi woi no wisdom
Take heed, my brother take heed wowoy
The wise man builds his house on the rock
Way the foolish man builds his house
On the sand oh yea
Ee na moi na moi na moi na moi
Ee na moi na moi na moi na moi
How could the wise man build
His house on the sand
Where on the sand there is no foundation
Woy woy woy wooooy
Woy woy ee na moi na moi na moi na moi
Ee na
The lyrics of "Eek-A-Mouse" by Eek-A-Mouse/P.O.D. convey a message about the importance of building a strong foundation in life. The song draws inspiration from the biblical parable of the wise and foolish builders, found in the book of Matthew. In the parable, the wise man is praised for building his house on solid rock, while the foolish man is criticized for building his house on sand. When a rainstorm hits, the foolish man's house is washed away, highlighting the consequences of not having a stable foundation.
The lyrics question the wisdom of building on a weak and unstable foundation. The repetition of "How could the wise man build his house on the sand" emphasizes the disbelief in such a choice. The reference to Noah building his ark and the wicked people ignoring him further emphasizes the consequences of disregarding wisdom and guidance. Even though Noah took animals in pairs, symbolizing the preservation of life and diversity, it is implied that the wicked people faced destruction due to their ignorance.
The song serves as a cautionary tale, urging listeners to be wise and intentional in their choices. It encourages individuals to build their metaphorical "houses" on solid foundations, which can be applied to various aspects of life, such as relationships, career, and personal values. The repeated refrain of "Ee na moi na moi na moi na moi" serves as a mantra, highlighting the need to pay attention and make choices based on sound judgment.
