Born in Kingston, Jamaica as Ripton Hylton, Eek-a-Mouse began his foray into reggae music when he was in college, but did not begin to garner a substantial audience until 1979 with his hit "Once a Virgin". This same year, he changed his singing name to "Eek-a-Mouse", the name of the racehorse he always bet on. In 1981, he cheered up the Reggae Sunsplash Festival, which was still mourning over the death of reggae icon Bob Marley. After this, his fame continued increasing through the year 1982 until 1988, when he released "Eek-A-Nomics", his last full-length CD until 1996.
Eek-a-Mouse is a regular at the Jamaican music festival Reggae Sunsplash and often teams up with reggae duo Michigan and Smiley. He has also been featured on Christian rock group P.O.D.'s (Payable on Death) album Satellite, lending his vocals to the rock-reggae track "Ridiculous".

The lyrics to Eek-a-Mouse's song "Zum Galli" are a call for unity and love amidst different religious and cultural backgrounds. The repetitive nature of the chorus, with the use of the phrase "Zum galli galli galli", serves to emphasize the importance of coming together and singing one song, regardless of our differences. The song urges us to work and play together while spreading peace in the world. The line "love everybody" is repeated multiple times throughout the song, serving as the song's main message of acceptance and tolerance.
Eek-a-Mouse also touches on the idea that though many people worship in different ways and call their god different names, they all lead to the same place. He follows the teachings of Marcus Garvey, who believed in the idea of "one god, one aim, one destiny". The song highlights the need for harmony among everyone, regardless of their respective religious or cultural backgrounds. This message of unity and acceptance is conveyed through a rhythmic and catchy reggae beat, making "Zum Galli" an enjoyable and thought-provoking song.
