Hollow Mountain
Efterklang Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Do it, do it, do it,
Do it, do operator
Come up, come up, come up so hard
Do it, do it, do it,
Do it, do operator
So what, so what, so what, so what, so what?
Do it, do it, do it,
Do it, do operator
So what, so what, so what, so what, so what?

It's impossible and, over mountain Doka
And I wonder, I wonder, I wonder
There is nothing else that in pieces to pieces are straight
When I forget about it
I can't face the pieces on fire
You stood straight, cause don't you know
That I've been picking up, to someone
Help, I'm falling down!

It's impossible, when the night inverts us
And I wonder, I wonder, I wonder what I am?
It's destructible, but I know that someday,
When I'm gone, I'm going, I'm going oh-oh-oh
I can't face the pieces on fire,
You stood strangers don't you know?
That I've been picking up from somebody's left
Help, I'm falling down!

Do it, do it, do it,
Do it, do operator
Come on, come on, come on so hard
Do it, do it, do it,

Do it, do operator
Come on, come on, come on so hard

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Hollow Mountain" by Efterklang may not necessarily be straightforward or easy to interpret, but it seems to revolve around the idea of pushing through, taking action, and perhaps even struggling to stay afloat or grounded. The repeated refrain of "do it, do operator" could be seen as a call to action or a mantra to keep moving forward, even when faced with obstacles or uncertainty.

The verses themselves are a bit more abstract, but they seem to paint a picture of disconnect or fragmentation. The lines "there is nothing else that in pieces to pieces are straight" and "I can't face the pieces on fire" suggest a feeling of being overwhelmed or out of control, while the repeated cry of "help, I'm falling down!" further underscores a sense of vulnerability or desperation.

Despite this, there is a hint of determination in the lyrics as well, particularly in lines such as "you stood straight, 'cause don't you know that I've been picking up to someone" and "It's destructible, but I know that someday, when I'm gone, I'm going, I'm going oh-oh-oh". The latter line in particular suggests a recognition of mortality and mortality's potential to motivate one to seize life while they can.

Overall, "Hollow Mountain" may be a complex and somewhat enigmatic piece, but it seems to touch on themes of perseverance, inner turmoil, and the ultimate impermanence of life.
