To see the tables turning
Wake up tomorrow
And watch the bridges burning
I can see
I can see it in your eyes
I can feel
I don't care
I don't care if you realize
What you see
What you see in my eyes
I'm over me being under you
I'm breaking free I'm breaking through
I've overcome all I'm underneath
I can finally stand
I can finally breathe
Remember when we
First had the thought of living
A perfect picture
But I did all the giving
Gave up my passions
To try to make you happy
The joke is over
And I'll do all the laughing
I can see
I can see it in your eyes
I can feel
I can feel it in my mind
I don't care
I don't care if you realize
What you see
What you see in my eyes
I'm over me being under you
I'm breaking free I'm breaking through
I've overcome all I'm underneath
I can finally stand
I can finally breathe
I can see
I can see it in your eyes
I can feel
I can feel it in my mind
I don't care
I don't care if you realize
What you see
What you see in my eyes
I'm over me being under you
I'm breaking free I'm breaking through
I've overcome all I'm underneath
I can finally stand
I can finally breathe
I'm over me being under you
I'm breaking free I'm breaking through
I've overcome all I'm underneath
I can finally stand
I can finally breathe
The lyrics to Egypt Central's song "Over and Under" convey a strong sense of liberation and empowerment as the singer asserts their independence from a destructive relationship. The opening lines express a belief that the tables will turn and the singer will come out on top, a sentiment that is reinforced in the following verses as they discuss the sacrifices they have made in the past to try to please their partner. However, the chorus marks a turning point as the singer declares that they are "over" their previous inferior position, and are instead "breaking free" and "breathing" on their own terms.
Throughout the song, there is a strong sense of both self-awareness and defiance. The singer is keenly attuned to their own emotions and desires, from the need to breathe to the feeling of resentment toward their former partner. However, they are also unafraid to assert themselves and declare their own value and rights in the face of the other person. This creates a powerful sense of catharsis as the singer sheds old patterns and embrace new opportunities for growth and self-realization.
Overall, "Over and Under" is a song about breaking free from a toxic relationship and finding the strength to assert oneself in the face of adversity. The lyrics convey a sense of self-awareness and empowerment, demonstrating how it is possible to overcome old patterns and embrace new opportunities for growth and liberation.
