However, Neubauten soon outgrew the confines of even the broad scope of industrial music. In their 25-plus years, they have produced a dozen studio albums, live records, a remix album and EP, scored theatre pieces, and more.
Lead vocalist Blixa Bargeld is perhaps the best-known member of the group, both for his work with Neubauten and as guitarist for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. His fellow founding members Alexander Hacke and N.U. Unruh have likewise been active in various musical roles outside the group over the years.
Bassist Mark Chung was a member of the group from 1981 to 1994. He founded the publishing house Freibank Music Publishing to handle business affairs for Neubauten and other groups, and has continued in this role (concurrently serving as a senior vice-president of Sony Music International for nine years). Percussionist FM Einheit, was a member from 1981 to 1995, and has also been active as a solo artist and member of groups such as Gry.
Since 1997 the group has also included guitarist Jochen Arbeit and percussionist Rudi Moser.
Neubauten's most recent work has been available exclusively to subscribers to their online home, www.neubauten.org. Neubauten completed the third incarnation of their online project in November 2007 and were touring Europe in 2008 in support of their latest album Alles Wieder Offen.
Currently Einstürzende Neubauten is celebrating their 30th anniversary with a tour through Europe and the United States. In October/November 2010 the band is releasing Strategies Against Architecture IV, the fourth album in the archival compilation series by Neubauten which collates the band’s output from 2002-2010.

Halleluja! Zeit vergeht – Zeit verkommt
Meinetwegen soll sie doch
Weiger' mich wie eh und je
Im ewigen Leben einzugehen
Eher: MoDiMiDoFrSaSo u.s.w. etc. etc.
Nagel mein Herz an ein Fensterkreuz
Oder stürz' ab
Nacht bald alle
Mein Herz geladen
Mein Herz entsichert
Mein Herz hat es heut' Nacht d'rauf angelegt
Ziel verfehlt
Ab in die Versenkung
Dann schon eher: MoDiMiDoFrSaSo
Wie eh eh eh eh und jeh yeah yeah yeah yeah
Seh' schon wieder Tageslicht
Glaub' es nicht
Aber es ist da
Niemand hat danach gefragt
Dienstag
Postkarte geht auf
Film im Unterkopf
Erdspalte tut sich auf
Die Glut im Krater Erde
Verschluckt die Hälfte der Weltbevölkerung
Alle Helden tot – happy end
Im Krater blüh'n wieder die Bäume
Freigegeben ab 16 Jahre

Donnerstag
Here comes the night
Neues Spiel – neues Glück
Gehe nicht über Los
Freitag
Was immer dich dereinst
Hoppla! MoDiMiDoFrSaSo
So – sowieso – irgendein Papst ist schuld
Nein – danke – für jeden neuen Tag
Halleluja! Nichts wie weg! Gehst du in meine Richtung?
Gehst du in meine Richtung?
Nichts wie weg! Gehst du in meine Richtung?
Sag' ja – sag' ja! Gehst du in meine Richtung?
Heissa! Samstag
Und und und MoDiMiDoFrSaSo

Mein Kopf ist ein Labyrinth
Mein Leben ist ein Minenfeld

The Einstürzende Neubauten's song MoDiMiDoFrSaSo is a song that embraces a nihilistic worldview, emphasizing the fleeting nature of time and the ultimately meaningless notion of existence. The lyrics start with a rhythmic beat, suggesting a clock ticking away, as the singer proclaims, "Hallelujah! Time passes – time decays." The line "Nagel mein Herz an ein Fensterkreuz" (Nail my heart to a window cross) reinforces the sense of despair and pain that characterizes the song.
The chorus of the song, "MoDiMiDoFrSaSo u.s.w. etc. etc.," emphasizes the ordinariness and repetitiveness of life, with each day blending into the next. The song's bridge highlights the song's highly existentialist themes as it proclaims, "Mein Kopf ist ein Labyrinth/Mein Leben ist ein Minenfeld" (My head is a labyrinth/My life is a minefield). The latter phrase seems to suggest that navigating life is a dangerous and unpredictable endeavor that can lead to injury or death.
The song's lyrics are highly metaphorical, but they convey a deep sense of disillusionment and dejection. The song appears to be an ode to nihilism and an embrace of the idea that life is ultimately meaningless.
