Much of the immigration "problem" is self created within the country, motivated by greed and the lust for cheap labor. Note that there is never serious talk of punishing employers for hiring these people. Instead, we punish the people trying to cross the border for one of the jobs in a chicken plant or as a hotel maid. But these employers are powerful Americans who contribute to politicians and are untouchable. Instead of punishing the people trying to get here for a job, toss the corporate execs who hire them into federal prison.

The reason that companies hire illegal immigrants is not because the companies are these evil powerful organizations w/ political influence! While many do work for larger cooperations (ie seasonal farm labor) most are hired by small companies such as landscaping and construction jobs. They hire them because they know that the govt does not care and businesses (big & small) exist to turn a profit. This doesn’t make them evil. This problem can be easily solved.
#1. Make it very financially painful for any company that hires people here illegally. Enforce existing laws and make it a felony to hire them.
#2. Strictly Enforce existing immigration laws at the border and in the heartland. Create a path for all people here illegally to gain citizenship. And draw a RED LINE! Ie. As of this date, anyone caught over staying visas or crossing the border illegally will be turned away. If caught again, mandatory prison time and then deportation.
Porous borders invite drugs, guns, human trafficking and potential terrorists coming into the country. It also is a huge burden on the American tax payer.
Close the asylum loophole. Work with Mexico to set up a facility IN MEXICO to apply for asylum. No asylum should be granted inside the USA.

The perpetrator (I refuse to say his name) — who committed this horrific act of terrorism at the Walmart in El Paso — still hasn’t been convicted. The federal trial won’t be underway until January 8, 2024 (Assuming no additional delays result in the date being pushed back even further.) El Paso, as a community, the victims and their families, and Texas in general — have been through so much! 💔

Most of the guards in Texas Prisons are Mexican themselves, so they won’t really do much to help him either. That’ll be his existence for the rest of his life.

I try to always ask "who profits from this situation?" whenever an issue gets so politicized and it helps me see through the smoke and mirrors. Who benefits from having more poor desperate people in the USA? One way to solve a lot of this would be to legalize drugs. No more funds for the violent gangs, only taxes to their government that should be forced to spend on it's own people. Perhaps the government already gets their cut with them being illegal, but has a cover story to never be able to spend any of that on the actual people living there. It's never going to be some fairy tale solution. You have to see the greed first to understand how you could manipulate it for good. The greed is never going away.

Just for the record, I live in Texas. Im in the Southeast portion. I can confirm that El Paso has been safe for many years. I feel more safe there than in Houston. Contrary to popular belief, not every border town is dangerous. San Diego has easy access to Tijuana. Yet, its not a super dangerous city in California. Lets not be afraid of facts people. 🤷

Eastern Washington like Walla Walla, Clarkston, Cheney, or Pullman won't be very affected by the Cascadia Subduction Zone if it goes off.

@Cooper Gates this is not a state fot LGBT for sure. I wont deny that. But sadly, the most friendly states for them are high COL places. Atlanta is LGBT friendly, but its actually not cheap anymore. There is also a serious HIV crisis in Atlanta. But Im not LGBT, so I dont have to worry as much. My cousin is gay and moved to Atlanta. She is an entrepreneur and very successful. But she tells me its a hard city to live if ur not self motivated.

@First name Last name you are absolutely right in that there were definitely government funds in the mix…the place I was at had a 10 News crew in there at one point, but since security was a concern, a lot of it had to be kinda hush hush, and a lot of the people in charge were purposely vague about certain things for the same reason. It’s not outside the realm of possibility to imagine that certain groups COULD have profited from it…just wanted to point out that at least in my experience, having been briefly involved with it during the height of the whole migrant-caravan era, there really were a lot of people there who were there for their own civic/religious/moral convictions, without any kind of monetary compensation whatsoever; and the accommodations where the people I served stayed made those Covid Hotels for homeless people look like the Ritz Carlton! Literally, Petsmart for humans. With cold floors, not enough bathrooms or showers, and just subpar conditions on all fronts. Fortunately, it was just a brief stay for the people, but still, just wanted to share.

The gates where open for a long time. The good old days when people came to this country and assimilated. Who came to be Americans. Before I left California I had a neighbor who I was friends with come over and tell me that all the other neighbors where telling each other I was a racist. I was shocked and ask why the hell they would think that. He said because I had a American flag on my porch. I couldn't believe what he was saying. I told him that we are in America and asked him how was it racist to have the flag of the country you live in on your porch. A few people had Mexican flags and I asked if they hated Americans. After that I was invited to all their party's and would invite everyone to our BBQs.

What these immigration policies have done is set up a cruel and punitive system designed to crush those escaping poverty, starvation, gang violence, and climate change, all of which have been exacerbated and perpetuated by American foreign policy. You want fewer migrants and asylum seekers coming across the Mexican border? That entails keeping people in place by offering them a life and a future. It means enacting sustainable economic practices instead of exploitative ones. It means aiding local governments to provide sufficient care and provisions for their people. It means curbing the wholesale of guns and ammunition and regulating the flow of weaponry to South and Central America. It means ending pointless, protracted wars on drugs. It means working collectively to minimize the power and influence of cartels. All these things lead to better living conditions for millions of people who are desperate to flee their dire circumstances, making a dangerous journey across the continent based on the hope of a better life. America is nominally good at setting metaphorical (and literal) fires in other people's yards, and then has the gall to complain when the occupants are left stranded right outside their door. The answer has never been to degrade them to the point of despair, but or the Trump era, cruelty was entirely the point. The solutions are to assist these migrants in order to encourage their continued settlement in their home countries. No amount of money burned on a border fence that blows over on a gusty day, or funding for more border patrols is going to slow down the volume of people escaping the hardships that we have heaped upon them.

Trump lies, El Paso has been and still is one of the safest cities in the U.S. Even before the wall. I'm not Hispanic nor white. I've lived in an visited many U.S. cities from Maine down to Florida all through the South , Georgia, Tennessee, Both Carolinas, Michigan, and none have matched the level of comfort I have in El Paso none. It's not the wall that makes El Paso a great place to live it's the people here they are peaceful and welcoming. My family and I have been here 10 years now from the East Coast. Baltimore and Philadelphia and guess what I'll never live anywhere on the East Coast again. Best choice I've ever made. Not once in my time here have I even seen a fight or even heard a gun shot. As a child,I did not know of people hating people for their color or regions they came from. When I was becoming an adult,I saw this Radical behavior. I did not understand it. So they say they are running from violence, one woman shot up her own house and showed it to immigration, they saw right through her and deported her, a reporter visited her she was happily farming. 2 kids who were sent on by their mom, who died while trying to follow, was sent back home, if the violence which is all over the world was so bad, why send them back? It used to take months to come legally to the US, now it's years, all because of the thousands crossing illegally, in front of others. If you were in line at the ATM, and others keep stepping in front of you, it would take you years to get your cash as well. USA is a land of immigrants, but it must be done orderly, to have housing jobs, healthcare, schools to name a few available, or there will be chaos, and the immigrants will join the working homeless living in their cars

Furthermore these people come from places that have it very very bad and they know how to work hard and build like know one else because they of all people know just how good we have it here in America. I know a Hispanic immigrant that crossed the border into the U.S. and told me what he saw at the border. He told me the caravan of people is mixed with families, honest hard working men, and criminals such as gang members and people who had done atrocious things in their country. He also told me that the location he was at in Mexico at the border, was a dangerous area and there were criminals and cartel members left and right everywhere you turned. Point is these are not all angels coming in, there are criminals and bad people in there and the people that help them cross are cartel members. No morals. No respect. I disagree with both sides on this (and various other things). We cannot separate children from parents, we can't build walls everywhere, and we must be humane. But we also cannot just let in anyone who wants to come here, and we do need border security. I don't know what the solutions are, but the separation system is appalling and evil and not who we are, but laws also matter, and anyone who crosses illegally should expect consequences.

The other side of this is our complicity in it. The US did some pretty heinous things in central/south America. I can't draw a line straight from those things to the violence and other problems that are driving people north now, but I also can't say that there isn't a connection.

Just because they're brown doesn't mean that they don't deserve equal treatment. The people in this video who are trying to cross the border are regular people.
