The couple knew each other since the 1990s where they were attending the same school in Køge. Prior to Electric Lady Lab, Martin was alongside Jakob Weise Hellumpart part of the Danish pop duo The Loft, whereas Stine was part of the indie pop band NU with other band members being Peter Iversen, Lars Iversen and Morten Krog Helgesen. Stine Hjelm Jacobsen was also previously a vocalist in the Ridin' Thumb.
Electric Lady Lab debuted with the single "It's Over Now" in November 2009, but got commercial breakthrough with "You & Me" released in June 2010 that sampled on "Rhythm Is a Dancer", a 1992 hit from the German eurodance group Snap!. The single has made it to #2 on the Hitlisten, the official Danish Singles Chart. It was also a hit in Norway, Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
September 2011 saw the release of "Touch Me", with sampling from a-ha's 1985 hit "The Sun Always Shines on TV". The song was composed with Johan Wohlert from The Storm and used the vocals of a-ha lead singer Morten Harket.

that's were you used to be
And I can't seem to hide
what you're doing to me
I get lonely now
In this cold war hearts don't stand a chance
Please unwind, you're out of place
And I keep calling your name, your name, your name, your name...
Don't you see what you did
What you made me become?
Made me lose all my wits
When you left me alone
I'm so lonely now
In this cold war hearts don't stand a chance
Please unwind, you're out of place
I just want you to rise
And I keep calling your name, your name, your name, your name...
I saw you running, but you're running too fast
You keep moving through open doors
You keep on running, slipping out of my hands
And I keep calling your name, your name, your name, your name...
You keep moving through open doors
You keep moving, keep moving
You keep moving through open doors
And I keep calling your name, your name, your name, your name..
The lyrics to Electric Lady Lab's "Open Doors" explore the feeling of longing and heartbreak that comes with a past relationship. The opening lines, "There's a hole in my heart, that's where you used to be, and I can't seem to hide what you're doing to me" speak to the emptiness that exists after a relationship ends. The singer is grappling with the loneliness that comes from not having their loved one in their life anymore.
The chorus of the song provides a metaphor for the state of the relationship - "In this cold war hearts don't stand a chance. Please unwind, you're out of place. I just want you to rise." The war metaphor highlights the constant struggle that exists in relationships, and how sometimes it feels like the two parties involved are on opposite sides. The singer is pleading for some resolution, for the other person to "rise" and mend the relationship.
The final lines of the song, "You keep moving through open doors, and I keep calling your name" represent the finality of the relationship. The other person is "running too fast" and "moving through open doors," meaning they are moving on and leaving the singer behind. Despite this, the singer cannot help but keep calling their name, demonstrating the lingering emotions that remain long after a relationship ends.
