A wolf in sheep's clothing. Six of the most sought-after musicians on the french musical scene. Since 2001, Electro Deluxe have evolved from their early electro-jazz sound to a energetic cocktail of dirty soul & funk with a touch of class.
After ten years of criss-crossing the globe (China, India, Canada, Mexico, Europe) and performing at some of the most prestigious festivals (Montréal Jazz Festival, Jazz à Vienne, Cervantino, Solidays), Electro Deluxe celebrate their tenth anniversary with the release of the double album Live in Paris, recorded with the full artillery of their Big Band.
A reservoir of musical talent, and inspired by the mythical “Funk Brothers” of Motown lore, Electro Deluxe work as studio musicians for among others, Universal & Motown recording artists, Ben Oncle Soul and Hocus Pocus, who have equally participated on our records.
At the heart of the groove scene and with the ability to cross-over into other genres, Electro Deluxe have enjoyed modest success in their hometown of Paris, France, with each of their last 2 albums topping the jazz charts in France while performing entirely in English.
More Deluxe than Electro, and not bound to any one musical reference, they continue to push the boundaries of their music.
Members of Electro Deluxe include:
Arnaud Renaville: drums
Jérémie Coke: bass
Thomas Faure: saxophone
Vincent Payen: trumpet
James Copley: vocals
Gael Cadoux: keyboards
Devil
Electro Deluxe Lyrics

Had wind blowing, skirts above the knees
Ain't no doctor, find a cure for this disease
You know what I'm talkin'bout, the most weak is a mangle bee
Never gonna learn
It's time to worry
Devil, yeah
Sometimes it's wrong, sometimes it's right
Living, yeah
Just close your eyes to numb the light
Cuz we all got a little bit of devil
(Well, well, yeah)
Creatures preaching, your soul's just what you read
Well, I'm back-sliding, in a back old canteen sheet
Now, loads of last night, tell intuition about by my side
Holdin' on, and on, and on, and on
You know I got a little devil inside
Never gonna learn
It's time to worry
Devil, yeah
Sometimes it's wrong, sometimes it's right
But it's never gonna be denied
Living, yeah
Just close your eyes to numb the light
Cuz we all got a little bit of devil
Got a little devil, got a little devil inside
Got a little devil, got a little devil inside
Never gonna learn
It's time to worry
Devil, yeah
Sometimes it's wrong, sometimes it's right
But it's never gonna be denied
Living, yeah
Just close your eyes to numb the light
Cuz we all got a little bit of devil
Devil, yeah
Sometimes it's wrong, sometimes it's right
But it's never gonna be denied
Living, yeah
Just close your eyes to numb the light
Cuz we all got a little bit of devil
The song "Devil" by Electro Deluxe talks about the duality of human nature, where everyone has a little bit of devil inside them. The lyrics describe a bad day in the summer, where the singer is running through a bridge, and the wind is blowing the skirts above the knees. The song talks about a disease that cannot be cured by medicine, but it is something that everyone has to deal with - the devil that resides in them. The lyrics further reveal the notion of never learning and always worrying about the conflict between the right and the wrong. The refrain, "we all got a little bit of devil," emphasizes how we are all at risk of falling, and there is no escape from our inner demons.
The song continues with the lines that describe how we are creatures preaching. We create our own reality and preach to others what we believe, but we end up backsliding into our old ways. We cannot escape from our intuition, and the devil inside us keeps holding on, and on, and on. The song suggests that we cannot get rid of the devil inside us, but we can numb it by closing our eyes to the light. Being aware of our inner demons is the first step towards finding peace and leading a meaningful life.
Overall, "Devil" is a powerful and thought-provoking song that talks about the human condition. The lyrics are deep, and the melody is soulful, making it a perfect fit for any mood.
