Upa, neguinho na estrada
Upa pra lá e pra cá
Vige, que coisa mais linda
Upa, neguinho começando a andar
Upa, neguinho na estrada
Upa pra lá e pra cá
Vige, que coisa mais linda
Upa, neguinho começando a andar
Começando a andar
Começando a andar
E já começa a apanhar
Cresce, neguinho, me abraça
Cresce, me ensina a cantar
Eu vim de tanta desgraça
Mas muito eu te posso ensinar
Mas muito eu te posso ensinar
Capoeira
Posso ensinar
Ziquizira
Posso tirar
Valentia
Posso emprestar
Liberdade
Só posso esperar
Ta-ta-pratitri-tritripatota
Ta-ta-pratitri-tritripatota
Ta-ta-pratitri-tritripatota
Upa, negrinho na estrada (hehe)
Upa pra lá (haha)
Vige, que coisa mais linda
Upa, neguinho começando a andar
Upa, neguinho na estrada
Upa pra lá e pra cá
Vige, que coisa mais linda
Upa, neguinho começando a andar
Começando a andar
Começando a andar
E já começa a apanhar
Cresce, neguinho, me abraça
Cresce, me ensina a cantar
Eu vim de tanta desgraça
Mas muito eu te posso ensinar
Mas muito eu te posso ensinar
Capoeira
Ziquizira
Valentia
Liberdade
Só posso esperar

Ta-ta-pratitri-tritripatota
Ta-ta-pratitri-tritripatota
Ta-ta-pratitri-tritripatota

The lyrics of "Upa Neguinho" by Elis Regina & Jair Rodrigues tell a heartwarming story of a child's journey in life. "Upa" is a Brazilian word that parents use when carrying their infants on their shoulders, and "neguinho" is a term of endearment for a little black child. The song begins by describing the child being carried on the road, being raised up, up and down, and how beautiful it is to see them starting to walk. However, as they begin their journey, they also start to experience hardship and face challenges, represented in the line "and already starts to get spanked."
Next, the lyrics shift to the perspective of the adult, asking the child to grow, embrace them, and teach them how to sing. The adult acknowledges their own experiences of coming from unfortunate circumstances but also expresses the belief that they have much to teach the child. The following lines mention various elements of Brazilian culture, such as Capoeira (a Brazilian martial art form), ziquizira (slang for trouble or conflict), valentia (bravery), and liberdade (freedom). The adult can offer these lessons to the child, but freedom is something they can only hope for in the future.
The repetition of the phrase "ta-ta-pratitri-tritripatota" throughout the song is a playful expression, perhaps meant to engage and entertain the child. It adds a joyful and rhythmic element to the song, reflecting the child's enthusiasm and energy.
Overall, "Upa Neguinho" celebrates the beauty and resilience of childhood while recognizing the challenges and the potential for growth and learning.

Bom demais. Música brasileira, joia rara!
