People fly by, in the traffics boom
Knowing, just where you are blowing
Getting to where you should be going
don't let them get you down
Making you feel quilty about
Golden rain, will bring you riches
Climbing, forever trying
Find your way out of the wild, wild wood
Now there's no justice
Only yourself that you can trust in
And I said high tide, mid afternoon
People fly by, in the traffics boom
Knowing, just where you are blowing
Getting to where you should be going
Day by day your world fades away
Waiting to feel all the dreams that say
Golden rain will bring you riches
All the good things you deserve now
And I say, climbing, foreever trying
Find you way out of the wild, wild wood
Said you are gonna find you way out of the wild, wild wood
Wild wild wood
Eliza Carthy's song "Wildwood" appears to be a song about finding oneself or one's way in a confusing and chaotic world. The opening lyrics describe the setting as "high tide, mid afternoon" with "people fly[ing] by, in the traffics boom." This has a sense of urgency, as if life is moving too quickly and it can be hard to keep up. However, the chorus offers hope, encouraging the listener to "know just where you are blowing" and aim for where they should be going. There is also a warning not to let others "get you down" and make you feel guilty about your choices. Instead, "golden rain" will bring "all the good things you deserve."
The second verse continues this theme, describing how "day by day your world fades away" as you wait for your dreams to come true. The chorus repeats the call to "find your way out of the wild, wild wood," with the repetition reinforcing the importance of this message. The final line of the song, "Wild wild wood," is a reminder of the chaos and confusion that can exist, but also offers a sense of acceptance of the world as it is.
