Hot in Harlem
Ella Fitzgerald Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Music music everywhere
Happiness is in the air
Not a soul has got a care
Holiday in Harlem

Up and down the avenue
You see faces old and new
With a smile that welcomes you
'Cause it's holiday in Harlem

Sophisticated ladies
Dizzy, dumb, and wise
My oh my, when they get high
There's danger in their eyes

Not a soul is feelin' blue
Up and down the avenue
With a smile that welcomes you
Holiday in Harlem

Sophisticated ladies
Dizzy, dumb, and wise
My oh my, when they get high
There's danger in their eyes

Not a soul is feelin' blue
Up and down the avenue

With a smile that welcomes you
'Cause it's holiday in Harlem

Nice, Richard. Do you have any old film of "your" past in music ? That would be nice to see too. Depending on taste, we' re either going to hate it or love it, LOL ! God bless !

A very diverse taste, in music, makes a great stew, Richard, as you know. I enjoy diversity as well, but personally I do not love all of it. I want it to mean something, without the glitz & glamour. I'd love to hear you play. It was part of your old life, "the then". That's not you anymore, but I thought it would be interesting to see. God bless !
