John was raised in the Pinner suburb of London and learned to play piano at an early age, forming the blues band Bluesology in 1962. After leaving Bluesology in 1967 to embark on a solo career, John met Taupin after they both answered an advert for songwriters. For two years, they wrote songs for other artists, and John worked as a session musician for artists. John released his debut album Empty Sky in 1969, and a year later formed the Elton John Band and released his first hit single, "Your Song".
John's critical success was at its peak in the 1970s when he released a streak of chart-topping albums in the US and UK, which began with Honky Château (1972) and culminated with Rock of the Westies (1975). John continued his success in the 1980s and 1990s, having several hit singles and albums in both decades, and has continued to record new music since then. He has also had success in musical films and theatre, composing music for The Lion King, Aida, and Billy Elliot the Musical. In 2018, John began his ongoing farewell tour Farewell Yellow Brick Road, which is scheduled to conclude in 2023. The 2019 biopic Rocketman dramatized his life and career.
Outside of music, John is an HIV/AIDS charity fundraiser and has been involved in the fight against AIDS since the late 1980s. He established the Elton John AIDS Foundation in 1992, which has raised over £300 million since its inception, and a year later he began hosting his annual Foundation Academy Awards Party, which has since become one of the biggest high-profile Oscar parties in the Hollywood film industry. John was the chairman and director of Watford F.C, from 1976 to 1987, and again from 1997 to 2002, and is an honorary life president of the club. From the late 1970s to the late 1980s, John developed a severe addiction problem to drugs and alcohol but has been sober since 1990. He entered into a civil partnership with Canadian filmmaker David Furnish in 2005; they married after same-sex marriage became legal in England and Wales in 2014.
John has sold over 300 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time. He has more than fifty Top 40 hits on the UK Singles Chart and US Billboard Hot 100, including nine number-ones in the UK and US, as well as seven consecutive number-one albums in the US. His tribute single "Candle in the Wind 1997", a rewritten version of his 1974 single in dedication to Princess Diana, sold over 33 million copies worldwide and is the best-selling chart single of all time. In 2021, John became the first solo artist with UK Top 10 singles across six decades.
John has received numerous awards, including five Grammy Awards, five Brit Awards; including for Outstanding Contribution to Music; two Academy Awards, two Golden Globes, a Tony Award, a Laurence Olivier Award, a Disney Legend Award, and the Kennedy Center Honor. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994 and is a fellow of The Ivors Academy. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for services to music and charitable services in 1998 and was appointed a member of the Order of the Companions of Honour by King Charles III (then Prince of Wales) in 2020.

Threw my spare change in the wishing well
The dream alone is always in your hands
If that don't fill the boy and build the man
A heart has many secrets, so I'm told
Through the years, a theory can grow cold
I'm up to be the king, it's gotten clear
The voice inside my head is the one I hear
Singing, I'm gonna love me again
Check in on my very best friend
Find the wind to fill my sails
Rise above the broken rails
Unbound by any ties that break or bend
I'm free, and don't you know?
No clown to claim he used to know me then
I'm free, and don't you know?
And oh-oh-oh, I'm gonna love me again
The golden age was somehow bittersweet
But now the past lies sleepin' in the deep
The peaceful days that followed hollow nights
A kiss or touch could feel like Kryptonite
Praise the Saints that hung up on my wall
For trust is left in lovers after all
A whispered word emergin' from a tale
My wake-up call to claim the cursed spell
Well, I'm gonna love me again (love me again)
Check in on my very best friend
Find the wind to fill my sails
Rise above the broken rails
Unbound by any ties that break or bend
I'm free, and don't you know?
No clown to claim he used to know me then
I'm free, and don't you know?
And oh-oh-oh, I'm gonna love me again
Sing, I'm gonna love me again
Check in on my very best friend
Find the wind to fill my sails
Rise above the broken rails
Unbound by any ties that break or bend
I'm free, and don't you know?
No clown to claim he used to know me then
I'm free, don't you know?
And oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh
Oh-oh-oh, I'm gonna love me again
I'm gonna love me again
I'm gonna love me again
The lyrics of Elton John and Taron Egerton's "Love Me Again" convey a message of self-discovery and self-love. The songwriter says that he has thrown all his spare change into a wishing well, hoping to have his dream come true, but he realizes that the dream has been in his own hands all along. He sees life as a journey full of secrets and theories that can grow old and no longer make sense. He has decided to step up and become the king of his own life, ignoring any negative voices that may try to hold him back. He wants to let go of any ties that may break or bend him and break free from any clowns or negative people that try to bring him down. The lyrics emphasize on the need to find oneself, love oneself, check on one's friends, and move past the brokenness and hardships of life.
The song speaks of the importance of self-love and discovery, as well as the realization that one's life purpose is in their own hands. It also highlights the need to break free from toxic relationships, negative people, and wrong perceptions about oneself. The lyrics use a simple yet powerful language that creates a clear picture of one's journey towards self-discovery, highlighting the peaceful days that follow the difficult ones.

@MJ RAMAMURTHY if singers made classic songs like this today, people like u would go
Omg why is he copying elvis? be original!
Or
Omg why is she trying to be like whitney Houston, be original!
Or
Omg why r they trying to sound like the beatles, be original!
There's no winning with people like u
Also, there ARE countless no. of amazing singers who write great songs today as well, ur just too stuck in the past, nostalgic and ignorant to see it.
The way u say nowadays all musicians are lazy is the same thing adults back then said about Elvis
Times change, and u whining about it wont stop it.
If singers like Elvis or Freddie Mercury or Michael Jackson's works "cannot be compared to any singer", then dont compare them at all with modern music (u never said this but u sound like a person who might)
If u dont like modern music, it's because its ur taste, not because all new music is garbage.
So stop having this kind of mentality, because CLEARLY u think justin bieber, 6ix 9ine, kanye west are the only modern singers we have in this entire planet
Btw, this reply was written by an 18 yo Elvis Presley fan, so dont u dare question my appreciation to his music.
@SunSeekerHawk
No autotune, no fancy mixing boards. This is his raw unadorned voice. Just breathtakingly magnificent. There will never be another Elvis.
@margocantrell4145
You are exactly right!!!!
@joshuagiveans9775
Musicians don’t use auto tune for live performances today
@jaukethart6008
Ummm what about yeat??
@margocantrell4145
@Joshua Giveans so it's true no help at all, just his raw beautiful voice!!! 🎶😄
@ErnestoHernandez-cg5tk

@lindacourtney5380
I was 15 when THE KING recorded this song. I taught myself to dance to this song.
I'm now nearly 81 and I'm STILL loving Elvis . . . THE GREATEST!!!!
@theextraordinaryworldofzei5851
They sure don't make 'em like that anymore, Linda :(
@Kleberei
81 is just 18 written in a weird way.
@willstreet7167
Elvis was a racist
