Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family when he was 13 years old. His music career began there in 1954, recording at Sun Records with producer Sam Phillips, who wanted to bring the sound of African American music to a wider audience. Accompanied by guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, Presley was a pioneer of rockabilly, an uptempo, backbeat-driven fusion of country music and rhythm and blues. In 1955, drummer D. J. Fontana joined to complete the lineup of Presley's classic quartet and RCA Victor acquired his contract in a deal arranged by Colonel Tom Parker, who would manage the singer for more than two decades. Presley's first RCA single, "Heartbreak Hotel", was released in January 1956 and became a number one hit in the United States. With a series of successful network television appearances and chart-topping records, he became the leading figure of the newly popular sound of rock and roll. His energized interpretations of songs and sexually provocative performance style, combined with a singularly potent mix of influences across color lines during a transformative era in race relations, made him enormously popular—and controversial.
In November 1956, Presley made his film debut in Love Me Tender. Drafted into military service in 1958, Presley relaunched his recording career two years later with some of his most commercially successful work. He held few concerts however, and guided by Parker, proceeded to devote much of the 1960s to making Hollywood movies and soundtrack albums, most of them critically derided. In 1968, following a seven-year break from live performances, he returned to the stage in the acclaimed television comeback special Elvis, which led to an extended Las Vegas concert residency and a string of highly profitable tours. In 1973, Presley gave the first concert by a solo artist to be broadcast around the world, Aloha from Hawaii. Years of prescription drug abuse severely compromised his health, and he died suddenly in 1977 at his Graceland estate, just 42 years of age.
Presley is one of the most celebrated and influential musicians of the 20th century. Commercially successful in many genres, including pop, country, blues, and gospel, he is the best-selling solo artist in the history of recorded music. He won three competitive Grammys, received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36, and has been inducted into multiple music halls of fame.
Baby Oh Baby
Elvis Presley Lyrics

Like a bright shiny toy, to a baby
No matter what you would do
I depended on you, like a baby
One thing I know, I love you
Yes, I loved you like a baby
It was a fool what you took
To lovers' ways I was blind
'Cause I just had a mind like a baby
You're just a flirt
And I had to be her guide like a baby
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Whoa oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Whoa oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I need you so, I need you so
The day I found I am alive
Then, I broke down and cried like a baby
Well, it was then I could see
You were playing with me, like a baby
Well, you can bet that some day
I'll forget just like a baby
In Elvis Presley's song "Like a Baby", the singer is comparing the love he received from his partner to that of a baby enjoying a toy. He is confessing his dependence on his lover and his foolishness in falling for her flirty ways despite his blindness to her true intentions. His love for her was pure and innocent, like that of a baby's. He then goes on to express his sadness and realization that he was being played with by his partner. However, he acknowledges that he will eventually forget about the pain and hurt, much like a baby who forgets a past hurt quickly.
Despite the song's upbeat melody, there is an underlying sense of vulnerability and innocence in the lyrics. The comparison to a baby is a metaphor for the singer's emotional naivety and dependence on his partner. The use of the baby metaphor also indicates that the love shared between the two was pure and innocent at one point, but was later tainted by the partner's deceit.
Overall, "Like a Baby" is a poignant and emotional song about the complexities of love and the vulnerability that comes with it. Despite its sad undertones, Elvis Presley's smooth and charming vocals make the song a joy to listen to.
Line by Line Meaning
You gave me love to enjoy
You provided me with love that I could revel in
Like a bright shiny toy, to a baby
Just like how a baby would be enamored with a bright, new toy, I too was captivated by your love
No matter what you would do
Irrespective of your actions
I depended on you, like a baby
I relied on you like how a baby would rely on its caretaker
One thing I know, I love you
I'm sure of one thing, I love you
Yes, I loved you like a baby
I loved you with an innocent and pure love like a baby does
It was a fool what you took
It was foolish of me to have let you take my love for granted
And I fell 'cause you look like a baby
I fell for you because you had the innocence, the charm and the vulnerability of a baby
To lovers' ways I was blind
I was oblivious to the ways of love
'Cause I just had a mind like a baby
Because I had the mind of a naive and innocent infant
You're just a flirt
You are someone who flirts a lot
And I had to be her guide like a baby
I had to show you the way, lead you, like a baby would need guidance
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Whoa oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Whoa oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Whoa oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
Whoa oh, oh, oh, oh, oh
I need you so, I need you so
I long for you intensely
The day I found I am alive
The day I realized I'm living
Then, I broke down and cried like a baby
At that moment, I became very emotional and cried helplessly
Well, it was then I could see
It was only then that I realized
You were playing with me, like a baby
You were toying with me, taking advantage of my naivety and simple-mindedness, like you would do with a baby
Well, you can bet that some day
You can be certain that someday
I'll forget just like a baby
I'll forget, just like an infant forgets things easily

Come back, baby, I wanna play house with you.
Well, you may go to college,
You may go to school.
You may have a pink cadillac,
But don't you be nobody's fool.
Now baby, Come back, baby, come.
I wanna play house with you.
Oh let's play house, baby.
Now listen and I'll tell you baby
What I'm talking about.
Come on back to me, little girl,
So we can play some house.
Now this is one thing, baby
That I want you to know.
Come on back and let's play a little house,
And we can act like we did before.
Well, baby,
Yeah.
Now listen to me, baby
Try to understand.
I'd rather see you dead, little girl,
Than to be with another man.
Now baby,
