Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family when he was 13 years old. His music career began there in 1954, recording at Sun Records with producer Sam Phillips, who wanted to bring the sound of African American music to a wider audience. Accompanied by guitarist Scotty Moore and bassist Bill Black, Presley was a pioneer of rockabilly, an uptempo, backbeat-driven fusion of country music and rhythm and blues. In 1955, drummer D. J. Fontana joined to complete the lineup of Presley's classic quartet and RCA Victor acquired his contract in a deal arranged by Colonel Tom Parker, who would manage the singer for more than two decades. Presley's first RCA single, "Heartbreak Hotel", was released in January 1956 and became a number one hit in the United States. With a series of successful network television appearances and chart-topping records, he became the leading figure of the newly popular sound of rock and roll. His energized interpretations of songs and sexually provocative performance style, combined with a singularly potent mix of influences across color lines during a transformative era in race relations, made him enormously popular—and controversial.
In November 1956, Presley made his film debut in Love Me Tender. Drafted into military service in 1958, Presley relaunched his recording career two years later with some of his most commercially successful work. He held few concerts however, and guided by Parker, proceeded to devote much of the 1960s to making Hollywood movies and soundtrack albums, most of them critically derided. In 1968, following a seven-year break from live performances, he returned to the stage in the acclaimed television comeback special Elvis, which led to an extended Las Vegas concert residency and a string of highly profitable tours. In 1973, Presley gave the first concert by a solo artist to be broadcast around the world, Aloha from Hawaii. Years of prescription drug abuse severely compromised his health, and he died suddenly in 1977 at his Graceland estate, just 42 years of age.
Presley is one of the most celebrated and influential musicians of the 20th century. Commercially successful in many genres, including pop, country, blues, and gospel, he is the best-selling solo artist in the history of recorded music. He won three competitive Grammys, received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36, and has been inducted into multiple music halls of fame.
She Thinks I Still Care
Elvis Presley Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Just because I spoke her name somewhere
Just because I rang her number by mistake today
You know she thinks I, I still care
And just because I haunt the same old places (same old places)
Where the memories of her linger everywhere
Just because I'm not the happy guy I used to be
Well, if she's happy thinking I still need her
Yea, let that silly notion bring her cheer
Oh how could she ever be so foolish
Tell me where did she get, Lord such an idea
Yeah, oh Lord
Just because I asked a friend about her
And you know, just because I spoke her name somewhere
Just because, Lord I saw her and went to pieces
Lord, you know, she thinks I, Lord, still care
You know, she thinks I, I still care
Lord, she thinks I still care
Oh no, she thinks I still care
The lyrics of Elvis Presley's song She Thinks I Still Care is a story of a man who has moved on from a past relationship but his ex still thinks he cares about her. The singer of the song is accused of still being attached to his ex because he speaks her name, calls her by mistake, goes to the same places he used to go with her, and is not as happy as he used to be. He tries to convince his ex that he has moved on, and her thinking that he still cares about her is just a silly notion. However, despite his efforts, it seems he is not able to fully convince her.
The song is a classic example of how memories of past relationships can linger on, and how people can misinterpret small gestures or coincidences as a sign of continuing attachment. It also shows how difficult it can be to let go of past relationships and move on.

You know she thinks I, I still care
She maintains the notion that I am still concerned about her
And just because I haunt the same old places (same old places)
Furthermore, I frequent the very same locations where recollections of her persist
Where the memories of her linger everywhere

Merely because I am no longer the joyful person I was in the past
Lord, you know, she thinks I still care
She is convinced that I still hold sentiments for her, despite what I may feel
Well, if she's happy thinking I still need her
If believing I still require her presence brings her contentment
Yea, let that silly notion bring her cheer

But how could she possibly be so naive
Tell me where did she get, Lord such an idea
I implore you, enlighten me on how she came to believe such an unfounded theory
Yeah, oh Lord
Yes, I ask for guidance on this matter
Just because I asked a friend about her
Only because I inquired about her with an acquaintance

And as you are aware, simply because I mentioned her name in passing
Just because, Lord I saw her and went to pieces
Merely because, my composure was disrupted after seeing her
Lord, you know, she thinks I, Lord, still care
It is clear that she believes I am still infatuated with her
You know, she thinks I, I still care
She believes that I still hold feelings for her
Lord, she thinks I still care
It is certain that she still assumes I have emotions for her
Oh no, she thinks I still care
But in truth, that notion could not be further from the truth

Recorded in 1976 at home at Graceland. LISTEN to the way that this man sings. He feels every word in the song. This year marks the 40th anniversary of his death. The only performer I never get tired of listening to.

just as so many of us deny...as much as i loved Elvis...its time that we as well as ourselves look at our own shortcomings...Elvis was human like the rest of us and its time to point the finger at him...not others just as we should take into acoount our own actions and choices
