But those in the know have been following Emancipator since he self-released his first album, Soon It Will Be Cold Enough, at the age of 19 in 2006. His agile melodies layered over headnodic, immaculately-produced beats captivated fans across the internet and across the world. “Soon It Will Be Cold Enough” was picked up by Japanese super-producer Nujabes, pressed in Japan and sold 5,000 copies in the first six months. Emancipator landed a Puma sponsorship, gave an interview to Rolling Stone Japan, discovered one of his songs was played at the Beijing Olympics (still trying to figure out how that happened) and his song “Shook,” a mashup that perfectly mixes Mobb Deep’s mighty raps with a haunting track from the Icelandic band Sigur Ros, become the highest-rated song on Hype Machine’s “Best 50 Songs of 2007,” and appeared on Hype Machine as the #2 most popular song in April 2009.
Emancipator's new Album “Safe In The Steep Cliffs” blends new instrumentation and organic samples with the signature Emancipator style of clean production, silky melodies and addictive drums. Dense layers of choirs, horns, American folk instruments such as the banjo and mandolin, violin and some distinct Asian influences make for a playful yet refined album built out of intricate tracks listeners can enjoy on as many levels as they want.

When I Go
Emancipator Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Just to get into it
I'm doing it on purpose"
When I go
I will stay long gone
When I go
When I go
When I go
When I go
I will stay long gone
When I go
I will stay long gone
Away
When I go
I will stay long gone
When I go
I will stay long gone
Away
When I go
When I go
When I go
I will stay long gone
Away
Falling
Falling
Falling
Oh, he drove all his days just to hold one against her
And then he rode to her house in the dead of the winter
Say
Why not?
Why not?
Why not?
Why not me?
Away
When I go
When I go
When I go
I will stay long gone
Gone
Gone
Gone
"How do you like that for harmony?"
Oh he drove all his days just to hold one against her
And then he rode to her house in the dead of the winter
Say
Why not?
Why not?
Why not?
Why not me?
Oh he drove all his days just to hold one against her
And then he rode to her house in the dead of the winter
Say
Why not?
Why not?
Why not?
Why not me?
"You are nourishing.
That's what he said"
The lyrics in Emancipator's song "When I Go" explore themes of departure and distance. The repetition of the phrase "When I go, I will stay long gone" emphasizes the finality of leaving, suggesting that once the decision to go has been made, there is no turning back. The phrase "I like to sing off key a lot" reveals a certain playfulness in the singer's character, and the lines "Oh, he drove all his days just to hold one against her / And then he rode to her house in the dead of the winter" suggest a yearning for connection or reconciliation with someone who may be far away.
There is a sense of ambiguity in the lyrics, as it is not clear who the singer is addressing or what exactly they are leaving behind. However, this ambiguity may reflect the universal experience of departure, as people often leave a variety of people, places, and experiences behind when they move on to something new. The repeated phrase "Why not me?" adds to this sense of uncertainty, as the singer appears to be questioning why they are not the ones who are staying, or why they are not the ones being sought out by others.
Overall, the lyrics to "When I Go" suggest a complex mixture of emotions surrounding departure - feelings of nostalgia, regret, playfulness, uncertainty, and yearning. The repetition of certain phrases and the ambiguous nature of the lyrics serve to make the song both haunting and evocative, leaving the listener with a sense of longing and loss.

The first time I heard this was around a campfire in the woods sitting around with friends coming down from acid and it was one of the most calming and enjoyable moments ever.

I don't understand how music like this isn't the forefront of mainstream. It's starved for the attention it deserves.
@isaiahjones711
For simple reasons bro, let me break it down for you. Since those of us that like music similar to this have a different sense to music. I know music isn't a sense literally, by genre (which I try to avoid classification) have a different intake of what "good/great" music is. I believe it mostly roots for culture+evolution. Primitive cultures made music to hit your body to move in a rhythm or for war. I like to consider most well known or otherwise artist as being intouch with music the same way us less than common individuals are. To take in, create, and manipulate music is a rare gift. I believe a lot of mainstream artists that have this gift misuse the creation part of it towards degree of "trending". Sorry my brain can't explain at the moment. It's something to meditate on indefinetly. One love..

@robertjuh
+Isaiah ‘Isotrophic’ Jones Why avoid classification? Like you said, some music is made for the body to move (most EDM subgenres) and some are just to listen to (most IDM subgenres) and some for meditaion/sleep/relaxation (ambient/triphop, differs per person (which also belong in the IDM tree i think).).
Classification is something wonderfull! Because i search for classes i found so much wonderfull and talented musicians which i might have never stumbled upon.
Think about it, right now somewhere someone is potentially making YOUR favorite track in his basement for fun. He uploads it to youtube or soundcloud and does not promote it because he does it for fun. How will you ever find this?
